5 Tumblr Tips to Tempt You to Create a Tumblr Blog

Postby cmoneyspinner » 01 Jan 2019, 00:35

I responded to a thread here titled Twitter and Tumblr.

I'm a loyal Tumblr user, so no surprise I left several comments. But just in case others are not convinced about the value of this blogging/microblogging/social media platform, below is a summary of hopefully helpful TIPS that might persuade you to give it a try. Keep in mind that Tumblr is just like any other social network. If you want to get the most from it, you have to work at it!

TIP 1: Tumblr's 'Reblog' is better than a Twitter Retweet; or equally as good.
Explained my reasoning or rationale in these comments posted here:
~ viewtopic.php?f=12&t=20703&sk=a#p409224
My logic is flawless. It's pointless for you to argue with me. LOL.

TIP 2: Tumblr allows you to use affiliate links in 3 ways.

1) Include them in your content as contextual links.

2) Place the banners or text links on your blog like ads.

3) Create a redirect page using your affiliate link that leads visitor directly to the site to buy the affiliate product. NOTE: Be careful because certain affiliate links are not allowed such as Clickbank and Commission Junction.

TIP 3: I used this feature when I had a Wordpress blog; but I don't have one any more. Nevertheless, I still see people on Tumblr using this feature. I found a link in the Help Section of Wordpress that explains how it works.

REF: https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2012/06/06/instantly-share-posts-on-tumblr/

When you use the social sharing feature, the link from your Worpress blog comes through with a blurb of info and also tags. When I used it, it did not require any extra work at all. The posting was automatic or automated. If you want to see how your cross-post comes through, I found a Tumblr blogger who uses the interface tool.

EXAMPLE: http://melissafietsam.tumblr.com/post/181535110577/download-15-completely-editable-instagram-square

TIP 4: If you're trying to get more followers and also likes and reblogs, you could try joining a Facebook group. I found a closed group on Facebook where members help each other by following, liking and reblogging. It's called High Tea Network. There may be other groups but I only know of this one. The group is comprised of a bunch of youngsters (between ages 18 to 30). When I first joined I felt out of place but the group moderator was very nice to me and made m feel welcome there.

TIP 5: You can maximize your social media sharing by recycling or resharing posts from one social media account to Tumblr or vice versa. You can use Tumblr for blogging (same way you use Wordpress, Blogspot, etc.); and/or for microblogging. (FYI: “Microblogging” is just another word for quick and easy social media sharing. Twitter is called a microblogging application. Tumblr is also a microblogging application.) I prefer to use Tumblr as a microblog. It's like a Twitter on steroids. You can create one Tumblr account with a primary blog and then create several secondary blogs all linked to the same account. OR … You can create separate Tumblr accounts for each blog. Whereas I don't mind managing multiple Twitter accounts, I think maintaining multiple Tumblr blogs is just too much work. I prefer to sign in once and access all of my blogs in the same dashboard. But some people like to keep things separated. It's your thing. Do you what you wanna do!

1) When you create a Tumblr, you can link it to your Twitter and your Facebook profile or page. When you publish a post to Tumblr, it will also publish to your Twitter and/or Facebook accounts. If you don't want to post simultaneously, you can always post at a later time manually.

2) Everybody knows manually posting to social media would consume so much of your time you won't have time for anything else. Use a tool like IFTTT to help you share or reshare your Tumblr posts to your Pinterest pinboards. You can use IFTTT to share your Instagram posts to your Tumblr. Just sign up for IFTTT. It's free. Then start using the "recipes". That's what they call them. It's a recipe to connect or map social media accounts to each other.

By the way there are lots of tools out there you can use to help you with your social media posting. IFTTT is just one of them and I use it because it's super easy.

7 IFTTT Alternatives You Might Not Have Heard About

WHY would you want to cross-post and/or reshare between social media accounts? Because there is something called “social signals” and nowadays since establishing a presence on social media is key to your online business success you want to show up as many places as possible. I am not tech savvy or geeky enough to explain this, so I'm sharing an educational link instead.

These are my 5 Tumblr Tips. If you want even more advice, tips and tricks, just Google “Tumblr tips” and you'll find lots more information. Combine my tips with the LW tips supplied and you should be able to publish a Tumblr blog that ROCKS!

I will check tumblr when I have time. Since you say Reblog is better than retweet, I am interested in exploring tumblr. You are a tumblr fan, have you ever sold any affiliate products through tumblr?

When you say "succeed" what do you mean? Were people using those blogs to earn money? Cause if they were I don't see why non-lewd blogs would not also earn money. Maybe not as much but still. :? :?

Like I say my Tumblr is linked to my other social media accounts. So when I post to Tumblr it also posts elsewhere on the web. I see earnings/commissions in my affiliate account. I'm not sure where they are coming from. I could pull a report to analyze. But I'm so happy to see the money there, I don't care what's generating the sales.

I used tumblr many years ago in 2013. There were many writers and poets on there as I remember.
But then I got lazy about posting. I will see if my old login info still works.
If now I will start a new blog page on there. That is good they allow affliate links.

Well since Tumblr has clearly lost a significant income stream, I trust the management has a way to make up for it! And actually I think they have. I head that their APP was not being sold because of the adult content at their site. But now their APP is back on the market. They must have done the math and realized they were losing way more money by not having their APP in the stores.

Hey! Nothing personal. It's just business. :$: :$: :D

So I yielded to temptation today and created another Tumblr blog. It's for video games, a topic I don't know much about. However there are a lot of people on Tumblr who do know. So now I have 1 Primary blog and Tumblr account and 7 Secondary blogs.

The primary blog is sort of for general topics of discussions and I blog whatever!

The secondary blogs are a little bit more specialized or aimed at a niche.

I'll see where it takes me. Hopefully forward.

I'm a little disappointed. Now that Tumblr is under new ownership, seems like certain things are changing. Just as I was getting used to how they roll! :D

For one thing, I used to be able to EDIT HTML on certain templates in order to customize them more. But now I keep getting a message about mixing "HTTP and HTTPS URLs" and I can't make any changes to my template. It didn't used to be like that. That's one annoying change I've noticed.

The other day I tried to do a REDIRECT page and noticed that the feature for that seems to have disappeared. Now I get a message that says that maybe the template I'm using doesn't have the feature. (??) Uh huh. Maybe. Maybe not. All I can remember is that I was able to do it before no matter which template I used. That's another change I've noticed.

Eh! Changes always happen when new folks take over. I'll just go with the flow!

Wow!! Wonderful tips. I was thinking of what to use between Reddit and Tumblr, I choose Tumblr, primarily for sharing my wife's YouTube videos.
So far things are not going good, but using some of these tips might be helpful.
I might not however, use much of the affiliate links as that would need more time, but I would try to follow the rest of the tips.

@ptrikha21 - I am glad you find the tips helpful. I have tried Reddit and quite frankly I don't like it. I know everybody else says it's great but I picked up on a very "rude vibe" in the community. So I left. Hey! Not everything works for everybody. If Reddit works for you, use it!

At this stage of the game, I now have 10 Tumblr blogs.

My primary blog which is a blog that shares work-at-home advice and tips is doing well.

2 of the secondary blogs I have decided to no longer actively maintain because 1 of my other secondary blogs is linked to a stand-alone Blogspot blog, a Facebook page, and newsletter and it has more income potential. Since I do a lot of my posting manually, I just don't have the time to devote to the other 2 blogs. So I posted one last post at the 2 blogs and pointed followers and visitors to my other blog.

My Tumblr online shopping blog is thriving. There are lots of shoppers and shopping blogs on Tumblr. So I reblog, and also sharing my own affiliate links. It is linked to a Twitter account. Since now Pinterest also allows affiliate links, my posts Tumblr posts also appear on Pinterest. I use an automation tool called IFTTT. It's helps with posting.

As for the other 5 blogs, I maintain them but I don't spend a lot of time on them. I created them just because they are popular niches – video gaming, cryptocurrency, food, music, and healthcare. I might be able to redirect some of the traffic to my monetized websites.

Since my account has not been deleted, I am just going to keep on Tumblring. :)

-- 24 Oct 2020, 15:06 --

You'll probably think I'm crazy  but last night I created a brand new account with 6 new Tumblrs blog. There is a method to my madness. First of all I don't want the old account that I have been using to be “disturbed”. I've gotten into a rhythm of doing things with that account and don't want to mess up my “groove”. However, I have a Pinterest account with 50+ boards and I think they could use some TLC (tender loving care). I decided that I would complement them by created a partner Tumblr for them. I noticed others combine the two platforms Tumblr and Pinterest. I decided to give it a try.

-- 09 Dec 2020, 13:36 --

OK! Fine! I'll just talk to myself about my Tumblr adventures.

My Tumblr blogs are slowly starting to gain followers. I'm going to give the credit to International Network, a private Facebook group. At first I wasn't going to join because I prefer to join Public groups. However, there are about 700 members. They posts and ask for reblogs, queues and followers. It's a Quid Pro Quo deal. You follow them, they follow you. You reblog from them, they reblog form you. Etc. Lately, I've been noticing that more of my posts are getting reblogged and my followers are increasing. I'm pretty sure it's that Facebook group that's helping me improve my Tumblr presence.

Here is another thing that I like about Tumblr. Just like how Twitter now lets you retweet your own tweets. Tumblr lets you re-date your posts and put it back into the post feed stream. Why is this a good thing? Because sometimes your content needs updating. Broken links, etc. Whenever I edit my posts, especially if I am updating affiliate links, I can also change the date. You can go back as far as the earliest date in your Archived Posts. Today I had to fix links in posts that were published in 2018. I updated the links and re-posted as of 2021. It's like BUMPING A POST. Works great!

Umm? Is there anybody here who uses Tumblr? :?
