I'm using Twitter more daily but the snag is just having followers that like your your posts or niche or what interest you. One can have plenty followers but don't find one's post interesting.

Twitter is social networking site. Tumblr is a social blogging site. You can use twitter to generate traffic and tumblr to generate backlinks. You can also monetize your tumblr blogs and make money

Tumblr is a free blogging platform that you can monetize with affiliate ads and network ads. However, you will have to check TOS before monetizing the tumblr blogs. You can also tweet affiliate links and earn money from twitter

Since I am not using tumblr, even though I have an acocunt there, I do not know how beneficial is tumblr reblog. I use twitter and I have a lot of Twitter accounts. The retweets give you more social signals and traffic.

Tumblr is web 2.0 site. Web 2.0 sites are a great platform to generate backlinks. You can use Tumblr to generate backlink to your primary site. If you do it properly, you might even pull some traffic from tumblr.

You might have your blog and do not want to use tumblr for blogging, still you can post short posts and backlink to your site. This helps in generating backlinks.

I don't know. I think most of the social sites give nofollow backlinks. If you need dofollow backlinks, you should try to create backlinks for anchor text.

Tumblr is removing contents with pornographic nature. This will led to decrease almost half of the contents. I do not think tumblr will be useful then as a lot of people will desert tumblr.

Tumblr's 'Reblog' is better.

Why?

Because your Tumblr can be connected to your Twitter and each time you post to your Tumblr it can also be posted to your Twitter. OR you can post to Twitter at a later date..

Because a Tumblr can be connected to a Twitter (and also Facebook by the way), that means if a Tumblr blogger reblogs your post, it is possible that it can also be tweeted via their Twitter because they associated their Tumblr and Twitter. OR they can post to their Twitter at a later date.

Once your Tumblr post is tweeted to your Twitter, you can retweet it again at a later date.

The potential for circulating or distributing your posts is multiplied in this way.

Is it so? Can you please elaborate a little more on how I can monetize my blogs on tumblr and make money? Thank you for this info.

Tumblr allows you to use affiliate links. Be careful because certain affiliate links are not allowed. Links from Clickbank and Commission Junction, I know are not allowed from experience. I got my blogs deleted. Before they were deleted, I was having some success using InfoLinks on my Tumblr blogs. But that was on the blogs that got deleted. I created new Tumblr blogs and tried to apply for Infolinks but they have consistently or persistently refused to approve any of my blogs.

Another thing that Tumblr allows is for you to create a page using an affiliate link that leads directly to the vendor's sites. I have not had much success using this method. But it seems others have because they use it.

Check Tumblr's Help section for all the details. It's very thorough.

Hope this explains.

Maybe they've changed this but when I used to have a Wordpress blog, it could be linked to my Tumblr blog. Whenever I published a post on my Wordpress blog, it automatically posted to my Tumblr with tags. Unless they removed this feature, it's not really any extra work at all. You're basically publishing two blogs at the same time. I don't know if they still have that feature. I don't have a Wordpress blog any more.

Just saying. If your concern is extra work, there is none. But if you just don't want a Tumblr then that's your decision.

TUMBLR TIPS:
So! I'm still doing my thing on Tumblr. Trying to get more followers and also likes and reblogs. Without them your Tumblr won't survive. I don't want to buy followers, likes and reblogs. I've tried that route and ... it's OK. Eh! I would rather patiently build my following. I found a group on Facebook that might help me achieve this goal. It's a Closed group. I'm giving it a try. They have "q4q" and "r4r". If you queue a certain number of posts from someone's blog, they have to return the favor and queue the same of posts from your blog. If you reblog a certain post they want reblogged from their blog, they have to return the favor and reblog a specific post from your blog. Some of the members in the group have a following so that gives my blogs more exposure and hopefully I'll grow my following. I think this type of reciprocal activity might work! I have tried other Tumblr groups on Facebook and Google Plus and they were useless. This one might be worthwhile. I'll report back later on my progress. I just joined the group about a week ago.

Exactly! Now you're talking. I've been trying to get folks to understand the VALUE ADD.
~ First of all it's FREE!!
~ Secondly, it's like Twitter only a bit more enhanced.
~ Third, there is a loyal group of users at that social network. You know how sometimes you post something on Twitter and you post it on Facebook but it's like you're repeating yourself. Because most of the time the people on Twitter are also on Facebook (and Instagram for that matter and Pinterest). But generally speaking Tumblr bloggers don't really care to be anywhere else on the web. They are loyal Tumblr-ites! You want to share something with them. Then come to Tumblr and find them!
~ Fourth, Tumblr does not discourage using affiliate links. It's true. Check their Help Section.

Yeah I know lot of folks on Tumblr are depressed teenagers, weird and strange adults and seriously into porn and/or anime. But it's some "normal" people there too. Actually it's funny. Tumblr has both extremes. You got holy rollers on one end and the devil's disciples on the other.  It's diversified! But you can find your place there. I got 6 blogs!! It's more addictive than Pinterest.

raaman wrote:Twitter's 'retweet' and Tumblr's 'Reblog'- which is better and why? Is there any other social network that offers this facility to 'repost' with ease?

My Tumblr experiences just keep getting better. Recently the Notifications feature in the Tumblr dashboard finally started working for me. I don't know why it wasn't working before. :? But now I can easily see when somebody likes or reblogs my post and can tell when I have new followers. It's great! Also the Tumblr/Twitter interface is awesome and makes double posting super easy! When I post to Tumblr, it posts to Twitter. I can turn the feature off and on at any time. Because sometimes I might not want to tweet. So as for retweet versus reblog? There is no need to choose. They will both work for you!

I made a Tumblr account before, but I haven't really used it. I did see the use of it before... but I think I have an idea now.

Tumblr allows you to share affiliate link. But you can't create a Tumblr specifically for the purpose of only sharing affiliate links. You must be an engaging member of the community.

I now have 2 Tumblr accounts. I would have had 3 but my first account got deleted. It is very easy to maintain a Tumblr. If you spend time on Twitter, you're pretty much doing the same thing. Creating short posts. It is good to have a Tumblr because you can link it to your Twitter. When you post to Tumblr it will also post to Twitter. You can turn it off if you post something to Tumblr that you don't want to post to Twitter. It's a very convenient and easy process.
