I use twitter but have never used tumbler. I was never interested in trying a free blogging platform. However, timblr is a web 2.0 site and web 2.0 sites are good for generating backlinks.

Exactly! Now you're talking. I've been trying to get folks to understand the VALUE ADD.
~ First of all it's FREE!!
~ Secondly, it's like Twitter only a bit more enhanced.
~ Third, there is a loyal group of users at that social network. You know how sometimes you post something on Twitter and you post it on Facebook but it's like you're repeating yourself. Because most of the time the people on Twitter are also on Facebook (and Instagram for that matter and Pinterest). But generally speaking Tumblr bloggers don't really care to be anywhere else on the web. They are loyal Tumblr-ites! You want to share something with them. Then come to Tumblr and find them!
~ Fourth, Tumblr does not discourage using affiliate links. It's true. Check their Help Section.

Yeah I know lot of folks on Tumblr are depressed teenagers, weird and strange adults and seriously into porn and/or anime. But it's some "normal" people there too. Actually it's funny. Tumblr has both extremes. You got holy rollers on one end and the devil's disciples on the other.  It's diversified! But you can find your place there. I got 6 blogs!! It's more addictive than Pinterest.

I have a twitter account, however, I do not use it. I do not have tumblr account. Tumblr is a free blogging tool that you can use to generate backlinks as well as promote your businesses.

@cmoney I do not know the audience of the tumblr. However, I read some where that the most of the active people on twitter are between the ages of 45-55. If the tumblr audience is young people depressed with life, I think we can get a lot of engagements on the posts that deals with depression, stress and anxiety.

Twitter is a social media platform while Tumblr is like a blogging website. Not sure though because I don't have a Tumblr account.

Tumblr is web 2.0 site and you can use web 2.0 sites for backlinking. Creating backlinks for your site s very important for SEO.

I was on Tumblr but never used it for months now and have never explored the possibilities of the earning part. I want to learn about it and begin earning from it.

You might have your blog and do not want to use tumblr for blogging, still you can post short posts and backlink to your site. This helps in generating backlinks.

I don't know. I think most of the social sites give nofollow backlinks. If you need dofollow backlinks, you should try to create backlinks for anchor text.

If tumblr gives you nofollow backlinks, what is the point of using tumblr for backlinks?

Both of them are worth to spend time on. Tweet is best for those who know the value f twitter while Tumblr is also best for those who know the value of it. I use them both and have set my postings to the two automatically. It's only that Twitter sends me more traffic than Tumblr and which makes it my favorite.

Both are beneficial, how much you benefit depends on how you are using these sites. I am not using tumblr, however, I have a couple of twitter accounts.

I am not sure whether tumblr backlinks are useful. Tumblr does not give you dofollow backlinks. Since it is not a dofollow, you don;t get link juice. Therefore, search engines do not recognize these backlinks. However, you can drive traffic though.

I have a handful of twitter accounts. I also have a tumblr blog. I use twitter almost daily, however, I have not checked my tumblr account since a long time. Both of these sites can be used to generate traffic.

Thanks for this information. I have been in the net for more 12 years and I not so conscious of these two. I have a twitter account that I am not using. I can't even remember how I was able to have that account.
