I know you'll find lots of ways to 'get money given to you in exchange for helping webmasters earn revenue,' but it kind of annoys me when people call it "earnings." "Earnings" implies that it's money you've given 'work of equal value' to receive.

On many of these "opportunities," it's more like 'money they agree to give you out of the larger amount they earn from you (by advertising the sponsors to you)'---it's all "honest money," sure; but it's 'generous sharing by the webmasters' more often than it's "an honest wage for honest work."

The word "Earn" comes from a wordroot that means "Harvest, Autumn (when the Hired Field-Laborer does Work Reaping the Crops)"---also the source of "Earns, Earned, Earning, Earner, Earners, Earnings, Unearned, Well-Earned."
