Re: The price of eggs has gone crazy!

I was just reading an article where one Walmart had eggs selling 18-count eggs for $2, which had customers suspicious about the quality of the eggs.

I know you like to joke a lot. But when you mention Trump, I can't laugh. If Trump is so good to and for the American people, then he should pay for the damages done to the Capitol building on Jan 6th! Isn't it funny? The rioters didn't throw eggs. Maybe somebody tipped them off that price was going to go up. So they treasured their eggs instead of throwing them.

who cares about Jan 6.. nothing was actually destoryed.. im more concerned with whole USA cities being burned down to the ground.. by the peaceful protests! .. .but no one talks about that. hmmmm
no wonder CNN is going out of business

anyways biden for the high price of eggs. He is fully to blame, and for our horrible economy gas and food prices. this is actually relates to eggs ... and the high price of them now. eggs never cost this much when Trump was in office.

Well, eggs in my country, is not too expensive that what we can afford. The price is just varied due to sellers that want a great profit. However I get eggs from chicken and if there's need to buy eggs, I would buy from a seller that sell at affordable price.

Yeah, silly them, not reporting 'news that doesn't happen'

and Biden had absolutely nothing to do with the price-increase.

And we shouldn't approve-or-disapprove based on 'whether we agree with you'---especially on matters like this, where you'll think 'what you think' no matter HOW wrong you are with a complete lack of "proof" (although I might be using that word wrong, as 'the closest thing to "proof"' that either of us can give is 'statements of reasons-why we think like we do' and 'links to others giving their reasons-why they think the same way.'

I don't think Biden is to blame because I see no connection between 'his choices' & egg-prices---if you see one, please show it to us. Now I see atheists problem; because you can't prove the non-existence of something (all you can prove is that it's something YOU can't see or hear or sense in any way or understand).

I actually searched for such a connection, and the first actual mention of Biden that I saw said it wasn't Biden's fault! Another source told me that the main reason was 'an avian flu-virus.'

But do tell me what your sources are---the imaginative story-tellers giving their fictions the name "news" :geek:

"Proof" is built on ancient words that mean "Worthy, Good, Upright, Virtuous." - Proof Prove Proves Proven Proved Proving "Proving Ground" (originally a place used for firing cannons to test ballistics & powder) Disprove Provable Unproved

I was really surprised to see this being the subject of a discussion on CNN only a couple of weeks ago. I don't know if I've noticed that big of a difference here. I guess it's because even if the price may have gone up, it still remains low enough to be affordable compared to many other food items. Eggs are a staple in my house.

Mine too, in a way. Most of the eggs I eat are a) those used by the frozen breakfasts I often get or b) those hard-boiled ones you buy (pre-peeled in packs of 2 or 6) from the store's deli-section.

Both of those producers probably get their eggs 'wholesale' or have their own hens that are not sick with bird flu.

A lot of the organic/pasture raised egg companies/farms didn't have to cull entire flocks due to bird flu, which is part of why their eggs haven't gone much in price. I suspect that's the case with the Eggland brand eggs too, because I didn't notice a price change for them at all.

It's mostly the "cheap"/battery cage farmed eggs that shot up in price, their flocks were the ones hit hardest with the avian flu.

Have people noticed a similar increase in the price of chicken, or is it just the eggs that skyrocketed?

I mention Jan 6th since it was the most horrific. I can't answer who else cares about Jan 6th, BUT I CARE! I am also disturbed about the "violent riots" that are being called "peaceful protests". But I can't blame Trump for everything!

Not sure why Biden has to take the blame for the bird flu. :?
As for our horrible economy? That didn't happen overnight. And it certainly did not happen as soon as Biden took office as president. The USA has had depressions, recessions, etc., but the country is still standing. If you want to place blame you might start with businesses and banks and politicians who are "in bed" with them. That "behind-the-scenes shady wheeling and dealing" has been going on for years. Of course, we only find that out when a whistleblower comes forward. Not sure I could pinpoint during which presidential administration. A lot of people weren't happy about "Reaganomincs". When Obama began his term the economy was already messed up! He didn't try to make it worse. But it wasn't that easy for him to make it better! A lot of "bad financial events" occurred during Bush Jr.'s 2 terms. Even so, I would probably not point a finger of 100% blame at Bush Jr.

The price of egg is really gold in my locality and it is really sad that we don't have any power to lower its price and just be with it since we need it everyday for our basic needs.

I haven't read all 11 pages of this thread yet, but have you guys been exploring all the different egg substitutes? I know here in the United States there's a product called "Just Egg" which isn't actually egg at all, but a substitute made from mung bean that can be scrambled or fried. It's a little bit pricey, but I suppose it's less expensive than actual eggs right now. I don't know how it does in baking as I haven't researched that, but I know people often use it in breakfast dishes.

For baking, I know people have been making flax or chia egg (soaked flaxmeal or chia seeds) and using that to replace egg, and some people have used mayonnaise, applesauce or other fruit purees, or silken tofu to replace egg in some recipes. For meringues, aquafaba (liquid left from canned beans, usually chickpeas) is a great stand-in for egg. I've heard of using sweetened condensed milk, but don't know how much replaces an egg or if it works in all recipes.

Anyone have any tried or true suggestions that have worked?

I have not checked any egg substitutes, I don't know if they are actually available in the local market. Interestingly price of eggs has dropped in our place by 2 cents. However, people are not buying eggs because of the fear of bird flu.

I heard about this piece of news. I cannot find a concrete reason why the price are skyrocketing lately. I know the fact that they were increased its value because of scarcity. The big question is, why eggs went to scarcity situation?

I don't necessarily mean packaged egg substitutes, but things that people might have in their kitchen pantries that can be used to replace eggs in various recipes. Some of those substitutes include applesauce, yogurt, mayonnaise, cornstarch, condensed milk, mashed banana, soaked chia seeds, and baking soda + vinegar.

Not every substitute will work in every recipe. Sometimes the egg is in a recipe as a binder, or to add leavening, or to enrich the flavor, so some substitutes might be more appropriate to use (and some won't work at all for some recipes, like custards).

This link describes a little more of what I'm talking about: https://www.pccmarkets.com/taste/2013-0 ... bstitutes/
