According to energy.gov, an average household can save up to $225 in energy costs annually by simply switching to LED lights. Although fluorescent lightbulbs are cheaper up front vs energy-efficient lighting, the long-term usage costs of fluorescent lightbulbs are higher than their LED counterparts. In addition, the standard lifespan of LED lightbulbs are 25,000 hours, while fluorescent lights are generally usable for only 8,000 hours (and LED lights have superior lighting quality)! Not only do LED bulbs consume less power/energy/electricty to operate, but you will also need to replace them much less frequently than fluorescent lightbulbs. Lastly, unlike fluorescent lights, LED lights do not contain mercury - a toxic material that can be fatal when inhaled. So if your homes still utilize fluorescent bulbs, do your best to prevent them from being shattered!
