The publishing industry is already on its last legs but I still buy newspapers and I am a person who prefers ebooks over printed books. I still find it useful even though we live in a very digital age. Here are my reasons why I still buy newspapers.
.It has more credibility than most online news these days. Newspaper articles are written by journalists who dedicated their lives to giving people the news. They even got assassinated because of it. Meanwhile, on the internet, a Blogger of a paid troll can write propaganda that favors a politician in power. Fake News in the newspaper is a rarity while fake news is a majority. I made fact-checking comparisons with some digital news and printed news and most of the time the printed news is more genuine and trustworthy. Politicians barely bribe printed journalists anymore because they save more money from random bloggers and influencers. I mean thanks to the internet the pandemic is getting worst because conspiracy theorist Karens have a platform.
.Most newspaper columns go through meticulous proofreading. This online article of mine is proofread by Grammarly. Newspaper articles are proofread by professional editors. I am pretty sure the printed articles are much better than mine.
.Coupons - Got 40% off discounts on some grocery items thanks to newspapers. Professional couponers buy multiple copies of a newspaper so they can game the coupon system. Online coupons do exist but I have better discount experiences with Newspaper coupons. Also got scammed by fake coupon ads before.
.I can recycle it. Unlike a paid subscription to a digital newspaper, I can resell the newspaper I collected in a junk shop. I can also use newspapers for arts and crafts. I use it as a biodegradable wrapper over plastic. Heck, I heard some people even grow mushrooms on them. During a barbecue party, I use newspaper to ignite the firewood. I am a duck farmer and newspaper is great bedding for ducklings.
.It has no comment section. Online news has a comment section and it is usually the most toxic and racist place on the internet. Propaganda trolls made a permanent residence in the comment section. Newspapers don't have that so I don't need to worry about such toxicity.
.Region specific content- if you live in a small town, you will rarely hear news about your town online but in your local broadsheet newspaper, you can. Online news usually focuses on more populated regions.
.No invasive ads, Newspaper does have ads but online news has annoying paywall ads. Those ads with the impossible to close x button are simply irritating. Some news sites even have spyware ads making them more annoying. Video ads are super annoying too. They automatically play without your permission when all you wanted is to read some article or story.
.I accidentally dropped my smartphone on the toilet bowl before. That won't happen with a newspaper. It is too big to fit inside the toilet bowl. I am still traumatized by that experience.
