Two (2) Flowers I Love and What They MeanContinuing on with this topic, the 3 flowers discussed in this article are
Forget-Me-Nots, Foxgloves, and
Frangipani (Plumeria).
I love the flowers that are called
forget-me-nots. Don't you? So many flowers are symbols of love but this flower is the symbol of true love. Not sure about other cultures but in America when you give someone a Forget-Me-Not you are professing true love and fidelity or faithfulness. They come in different colors pink, white, and blue; and the different colors have different meanings. The pink is for romance. The white represents purity. The blue is for trust. The flower's name is linked to the Biblical story of creation, although its story is not in the Bible. It is a part of German legend and myth. The story says that God was naming the flowers in the garden and one flower was left unnamed. The tiny flower whispered “Forget me not, oh Lord”. It is said that the Lord heard and named the flower Forget-Me-Not. These flowers are very easy to grow and so they appear in gardens all around the world.

The
foxglove is a lovely flower that comes in yellow, white, and purple. In my opinion, the purple ones are the prettiest. They used to be called Fairies' Gloves. They grow in Europe, the Mediterranean region, and the Canary Islands. CAUTION: Do not eat them as they are toxic. The foxglove symbolism is conflicted because it is said that it can both heal and hurt. Little children were told not to pick them because it would make the fairies angry. It was probably a way to keep them away from the flowers since
the entire foxglove plant is toxic … the sap, roots, leaves, seeds and flowers. It is harmful to humans and animals. But the flower also has healing properties. An English physician named William Withering gets credit for discovering the medical uses of the foxglove. The dried leaves are a main ingredient in the heart-stimulating drug digitalis.

Why do I love
Frangipani (Plumeria)? Because I read about them in a romance novel. The author kept describing their beauty and their scent and I fell in love with the flower and had never even seen one! When I saw a photo of the frangipani I went crazy! They are very commonplace in the Caribbean, and are also native to Central America, Brazil, Florida, and Mexico. The symbolism for plumeria is magical. According to GardenNerdy.com, frangipani or plumeria flowers represent a new life or a new beginning, and natural beauty. The 2 different names used for this flower also drives me crazy! ‘Frangipani’ is the name of an Italian nobleman, Marquis Frangipani. In the 16th century, he made a perfume with this scent. Charles Plumier was a Catholic monk and the officially appointed royal botanist of King Louis XIV of France. In the 17th century, he traveled to the
New World and documented many plant and animal species. He died before completing his travels but left behind a wealth of information. He was admired and highly respected by other natural scientists and so they named the genus Plumeria in his honor. The Hawaiians use these flowers to make the traditional leis that they wear around their necks.
