Re: Hiding their Identity

Postby suny » 05 Oct 2017, 23:04

I am open up to an extent but would like to keep certain information to myself. I do not want to answer some questions or stay available to everyone since I have my other jobs to do.

There are millions of sites that use privacy controls and they are not fakes or scams. It's like being ex-directory in the phone book. It's called the right of privacy. I have several websites and they are real, but I don't post my name or photo on any of them.

Yes,it is up to everybody if he wants to keep his privacy.Though I read on many sites, this thing does not favor the site, because people trust more the website owner,if they see at least a photo,or a name of him.

Okay, but in some cases it's a false sense of security. See my post above. I've literally seen the watermarks. They aren't even good fakes.

You really trust everything you read? There are many successful sites where there is no photo or name. Don't believe everything you read. Only a fool would trust a site based on those things. A good site to me is one free of pop up ads, spam links, and that contains information with references or has something intelligent to report.

I don't believe everything that I read :D ,Lexi. But there are some sites, who's owner is posting his photo and real name and makes videos too...and I know those are for real..You can't believe that every photo or name posted on a site is real, but there are exceptions too, where the info is real :D

It's true, some people don't mind sharing. That's their choice. Others prefer (to at least pretend that they) maintain a bit of privacy.

In fact, some over share. I always have a bit of concern for people who post their life story (including info about and images of their kids). Sorry, I'm not that trusting. Site owners are not the only people out there who could have bad intentions....

I saw a site the other day, which is well known and trusted and no identity was given. That's the kind of thing I was talking about. It's a recognized "brand" that's been around forever. No need for anyone to give out personally identifying details. Same applies to average people.

Service maybe referring to a progran or a VPN to hide their real IP address and anything about them. If they are real big websites I think that they are using paid services to have more security. To answer your last question maybe to protect themselves from any harm. Mostly if not Some websites do this are considered scam because they do not build trust that their business is a real one.

While your post has made a lot of sense, it also depend on peoples motives. I agree with you write up but there are some people who may hide their identity because of bad intent, at the other hand some may hide their identity but not with a bad intent. People are different when doing things.

I was renewing a domain the other day and this was listed about "Privacy."

There seems to be a of of dis-trust among FC''ers about people hiding their identity online from others.

Just thought I would explain a little more.

This is from GoDaddy.com

Available for your domain renewal,----- " "unlisted" domain registration protects you from - Domain Related Spam, Identity Theft & Fraud, Harassment & Data Mining & Privacy Issues.""

What I am trying to explain is that everyone has the same issues. Just because a site hides their information can actually be a security step for their own protection.

Hope this helps put some of you at ease. :)

To protect privacy.

Thnk you very much for the detailed answer. I don't know much about cloud flare and I will have t do a research to find more about this program.

Most people hide their identity online because of their own reasons and that can't be compromised with.

I think it's a right of any person surfing internet to keep their privacy and hide personal info. The thing is not all of them are humans.
If you owner of the website/forum you are facing the problem of thousands requests to visit your website from bots pretending they are humans. It could be malicious bots, scrapers, crawlers, hackers or different spammers.
To protect your website you can use captcha which will stop bots. If you want protection cheaper than captcha, you can use websites like botguard.net it will be for free.

I can only answer number 3. I think they hide their identity for their privacy or safety.
