Hi Friends,

Some six years back I had been to "Thiruvannamalai" or Arunachalam thrice, there I have walked around the mountain that is "Giri Pradashkina" the circumferance of the mountain is 14 km. I walked with my friends thrice with barefoot.

Is a marathon consider like a walk ? Even if I was jogging (like everybody was doing), I jog the whole ~42.5 KM (its about that) non-stop.

I was very happy of myseld after !

few years back we had been to our native place where one special event MAHAMAHAM will be held once in 12 years and people from so many places throng to take a dip in the tank where water from all sacred rivers will be filled up and it is considered as a holy bath and even saints and seers from various Matts and religious preachers of all castes and sub castes will also be present. Since it is a small town and heavy and unmanagable crowd, all the transports were stopped near the next station and people were forced to come by walk . So we walked all the way to this place , took a holy dip, and next morning walked back with our luggage and small children, and reached back home totally exhausted, drained and tired , That is the last lengthy walk i did and after that never wished to take a holy dip there again as that experience is enough for us

In Tirumannamalai, every "Full Moonday" Punnami (Pournami) day nearly 1 million people will walk around the Giri though out the day and night.

I know that and it is called GIRI VALAM , giri means mountain, valam means pradakshinam, that is going around the mountain and it is tedious too especially in summer with bare foot . i had been to tiruvannamalai but did not do girivalam

It is considered as a holy walk to appease the god done with sincerety. I heard that siddhas ( holy sages ) are still existing in that mountain ranges and so many people have seen them. i will give the link to know more about it . If you are interested to know about Giri valam u can go through it

Some may not be knowing about Giri Pradakshina and wish to know about it and this link will definitely help them to know in detail . I also wish to do Giri pradakshina but due to health issues i am unable to do it
