Ask WorkAtHomeGal Anything

Postby WorkAtHomeGal » 20 Oct 2016, 14:58

Yep you can ask me anything at all! Of course though keep it in line with the rules of the forum, so nothing inappropriate of course.

Random Suggestions

~ General Questions (Like favorite this or that. Likes and dislikes, etc)
~ Work at home related questions about stuff I do or advice for yourself
~ Questions on saving money and frugal activities (lots of interest here)
~ You can ask me personal questions, I won't know if I find it to personal though until I see the questions.
~ And lastly advice if you dare. I don't claim to be an expert though but just thought it would be fun :)

Obviously no one has to follow my random suggestions I just put it there to maybe get the thread going. Ask away though and have fun. :mrgreen:

I feel like I know you a little as you were here before I was and I've seen lots of your posts plus I've come across some of your tutorial vids on occasions.

I know you were job hunting recently. Have you had any luck yet?

Gosh I love to read but I stopped reading for years and just got back into it again. Some of my fav books are The Outsiders, LOTR series, Harry Potter series, Chicken Noodle soup for the soul since their real stories and poems sent in. I also sometimes enjoy a good romance, or even a book from when I was a kid. I just finished "Duddy Doesn't Live Here Anymore" which is by a author from my hometown! I loved how the book talked about Whitehall Road but called it The Snake. There really is a Whitehall road, it was fun and a good read. Now I am reading a classic The Secret Garden because I have seen the movie but never read the book.

Right now my main hobbies would be reading, video games, writing, planning, coloring sometimes and watching movies to name some.

Ah yes I have been in this forum for a long time. I have actually thanks for asking! The Dollarama hired me on. Right now though there is no gurantee of a permanent position. It might be just for the holidays. I do stocking/merchandising. My first real shift will be Monday coming, 4am-12pm.

What was the "weirdest" or out of this world meal you've had whilst trying to save money? I just thought about it after seeing your post about frugal living and I know back when I was in college, I did some sort of crazy meal idea just to make sure I have enough allowance to last me a week :lol:

I do have a blog about the work at home stuff I do but it doesn't really have any information on starting with Youtube. I just decided one day that I wanted a Youtube channel to try help gain readership to my blog or referrals and of course possible Adsense too.

I do not post very many videos though they are months between each other. My main reason for the videos was to get traffic to my blog which does happen sometimes but other times it doesn't. Some people just watch videos and ask questions that I try to answer for them. I have a gaming channel too but no longer post to it, that one probably is a more popular niche then my work at home stuff.

If you are serious about making videos on Youtube it is very hard work and not everyone is going to get famous or popular, I know I am not. I got some followers and some views but not in the thousands. Is there anything you are really good at? That could get you started with videos. I don't have fancy recording equipment. I have used my phone or a webcam in the past but sometimes the quality sucks. And I use a free screen recorded for most videos. I will try to help you but remember I am no guru at it. :)

bestwriter wrote:Are you really a work at home gal? If so what are the various jobs you do?

Yes and no. Yes because I do make some money online but the username might be misleading because that is not all I do. Ever since working online I have done offline jobs as well when income online was really bad especially. The main things I do now is forum posting and surveys I think So...

* ForumCoin
* Postloop
* TheForumWheel
* Pinecone Research
* Swagbucks
* Prolific Academic
* Usertesting
* UsabilityHub

I also have accounts with Clickworker, Microworkers, Spare5, YouEye, MyLot, Quicktate and some others I probably am forgetting. I would say sometimes my time management is poor, if I stuck to the best sites maybe I would earn more online.

Well Mr Noodles is cheap and a can of soup is cheap. Sometimes I mix a can of vegetable soup with Mr Noodles for added flavor and added food to make the noodles more filling. Adding some crackers or a couple pieces of bread to the meal can make it very filling. Its cheap but I imagine very unhealthy due to the sodium content and both things being processed foods.

skysnap wrote:What are some of your "lesson learned" moments from both working online from home and working outside for day job or so?

Hmm...

Well I learned very quickly after months into this that working online is very hard to do. With sites closing, and some ties not paying especially. And me trying to build a positive rep about myself and help others and be honest. Sure it is hard but fun and rewarding too.

From the home aspect, well my poor time management makes it for I tend to let house work go while I am very busy online. I sometimes ignore a lot of things when I get very inspired to work hard for instance. The other from home would be distractions, I can't tell you how many times I got looking at a movie, watched it and didn't finish my work because of it! Oops.

Working outside the home is a lot easier then online I find. But I am out of shape so stocking shelves will get me active and on my feet again. And the sleep situation, I find offline work means more shift changes where as online you can sometimes keep a same or similar routine.

You are right there. It is better to stick to a few result oriented sites.

I think my ideal job would have me using my creative either writing and making money that way or being creative and have that making money for me somehow. Well I do love Canada but it would also be nice to live in the UK, I would love to travel around there and see lots of stuff too.

This is nothing personal. I am just confused on the title of your post especially on "anything". It is confusing when you set a limit or random suggestion on what to ask by anyone of us here. What should be the appropriate title so that it would confuse us for the word, "anything"?

Oh I am sorry the random suggestions are just that, suggestions. You do not have to follow those. I put those there as ideas to get the thread going. If I think something is way to personal I will just let the poster know and from there won't answer it. I am pretty open though so I am not sure if I will find anything to personal. But anything means anything as long as forum rules are not being broken type thing.

You are right in saying find something that you are good at and share it on videos because even if you will have a hard time figuring this out, you will still come up with a great idea for sure. I love tutorials but I need a good camera for that. I don't want to use my mobile phone. I need to invest for a good camera.

Ah, so it's pretty much the same wherever we are! :lol: Yeah, not the healthiest food out there in the market but I also did something like that - a packet of instant noodles with more carbs like rice. Or when I was in University, KFC have free gravy in our home country and they have it in a thermos. So sometimes, I'd order a cup of rice and then just pour gravy in it. :silent:

This is just my two cents but I think a lot of people who want to work from home instantly jump into wanting to start a business or hope to make enough doing small things like surveys that they don't realize how hard it is. When I briefly was an independent contractor with Intelicheck that was the closest time online that I was making a paycheck like when I worked outside the home. If it is possible the first thing is to decide what you want to do online. Myself I just work on a bunch of websites but I don't make much, more like extra cash. Try focusing on either finding a work at home job with a regular earning paycheck or a business that will be successful.

I would like to invest in a better camera too. I have used my digital camera before but it takes a long time to transfer the video file from the camera to computer and the charge doesn't hold long in mine because it is so old. My cell phone is okay but a real camera for making videos would be better I think. I may try to save up for that too.
