The Winter Blues

Postby Spontaneo » 23 Dec 2022, 21:21

In the past, I have submitted many book reviews on books about hygge.

If you suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder also known as the winter blues, attached is an article about such disorder and how the Danish handle their dreary days and nights..

I just looked out the window and it looks more like the Winter Whites, but my computer is running fine so I think I will get through it again, just like I have in years passed.

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.

These days the Danish have a new thing, or maybe it's not that new, which is called "koselig". It means creating a cozy home environment and sharing it with your friends. Putting candles in the windows when it gets dark at 4 pm, cooking a nice meal and inviting friends over to play table games.
It sounds all very nice, but I am sure that, after a while, it could get a bit crowded and you secretly long for solitude and quiet hibernation again. :)

I was so upset with myself today. Maintenance was here today to get our driveway and sidewalks shoveled the best that they could. I am upset because I should have had some disposable coffee cups to give them some coffee.

Though I live in a tropical nation, I read up about this problem that many people in the Nordic countries face. Interestingly the acronym of this problem also matches with the general condition that people faces i.e SAD.

Yes... S.A.D stands for Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Many people experience winter depression or "the winter blues." Seasonal affective disorder is the term used by doctors to describe this winter depression (SAD). What can you do to feel more like yourself if the brief, gloomy days are making you feel down?

Here in my part of the United States, the winter weather has been so unpredictable.

One minute having to step in rain puddles. The next walking on snow. The next sliding on ice.

I don't suffer from full-fledged Seasonal Affective Disorder, but do get the occasional winter blues.

Years ago, I went to the tanning bed and wore shorts in the winter! Now, tanning bed sessions just cost too much.

Every so often, I buy myself something. I save a little money to spend on a really dreary day.

I bought myself a couple of sconces that are battery-operated so that there is a little light on when I go to bed.

Quite often, I watch a Joyce Meyer Ministries sermon on the television for a good teaching.

Then, I am considering, a self-taught education.

How about you?

Total bummer when there is a winter storm and the power goes out. I rely on my laptop.

That's interesting. Hygge really does seem like a cozy way to tackle the winter blues.

By studying hygge, one learns hot to handle the dark and dreary winter seasons. For example, cuddling in a warm and cozy blanket with lights on everywhere and a good cup of coffee and having delicious dinners with family and friends.

Cozying up with a warm blanket, lights, and a good cup of coffee can transform even the dreariest days.

As for coffee, I keep some flavored coffee for special days and nights. Every Christmas, Santa Claus brings an assortment of Swiss Colony flavored coffees. My favorite is Chocolate Raspberry! ;) ;)

Flavored coffee does make winter feel extra cozy, nothing like a warm cup to chase away the chill.

I have 2 sconces in my bedroom office. One of the sconces has a leaking battery! I am not happy.

Changing out the battery might fix it before it causes any damage.

I do not want to get the acid on my hands.

You can wear gloves to protect your hands while you change it out.
