QR codes to know your tree.

Postby arunima » 14 Jul 2025, 18:23

That's a wonderful initiative by one resident of the city and now many apartments and residential complexes are adapting it. QR codes are pasted on the trees. By scanning them, one can know all the details about the tree..it's age, species name, origin, uses etc. This is to create awareness about usefulness of trees for human kinds and also to bring people, especially younger generations close to nature.
It's an interesting and wonderful use ox technology. Youths can be seen scanning these QR codes to know about trees.

It is fascinating how much data can be stored on a QR code. The ease of accessing the data makes it so much more valuable. New technology keeps showing up with new ways to do everything.

Here in the US, we even now use the QR code to set an appointment for driver's license updates, or check menus at restaurants or even check the movies listed for local cinemas.

I recently heard about a joint project with the navies of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland, to place QR Codes on all their ships so they can Scandanavia. (That one's a joke)

Thanks arunima, I love that idea. How do they put the QR code on the trees, is it a laminated sticker or something else? Do you happen to have any photos of this that you can share?

@ Fergal. They have it on a metallic sheet printed. The same way they put information about plants when we visit any botanical garden.

Thanks arunima, it sounds like a great initiative, I'd love if that was done in my area so that I could learn more about our local trees.

This is a great step to connect technology and the environment. Putting QR codes on trees is an interesting way to encourage people, especially young people, to learn about their nature.

It is encouraging to see the community embracing this innovation. Through a phone, one can learn about the history of a tree, its uses, and its importance to humanity. This increases understanding and love for the environment.

We live in a rapidly changing world, but projects like this teach us that technology can be used to protect and appreciate natural life.

This is a very interesting idea! Using QR codes to identify trees is a great way to promote environmental awareness, especially for the digital generation. It makes learning about nature easy, interesting, and modern. This approach can help many people learn about tree species, their uses, and their importance in the ecosystem. By using technology in this way, we are making a positive difference to the environment and education.
