How do you deal and relate with people that are clear opportunists?

Postby Fidelia » 11 Dec 2024, 06:07

In our society today, we have amongst our relatives and inner circles, people that are just with us for the little benefits they can get from us. They don't genuinely care. How do you deal with and relate with such persons?

It's tough to stay close to them but I prefer to maintain my distance and don't meet them often

I chose to keep it interesting and offer good ideas without falling for any sucker deals and drop a good opportunity once in a while for an easy close.

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.

Those people that are opportunists can never get any help from me. Everything with them is clearly transactional.

I had a family member who kept asking my husband and I for money. I would be happy to help out a friend or family member who needed money if they actually really needed it (and we have done that at times). However, this guy kept asking for money because he'd spent all his money, often on frivolous things like a holiday and staying in a fancy hotel. He never learned, so I told him 'no' and he had to just live with being broke for a little while. Sometimes you've got to really spell it out for people.

Just simply be careful when you are around them, or better still try your best to avoid them if possible.

There is a friend that only calls me when she needs help. I just told her that she should learn to check up on me and show care sometimes.
