Do you think living in poverty is a sin?

Postby Starmix » 27 Aug 2023, 02:18

There are many scholars debating about this issue if living in poverty is a sin. Others may say a sin because those who Iive in poverty commit crimes just to save their hunger. But different religious and philosophical traditions may have different perspectives on poverty and sin. Some religions consider poverty to be a consequence of social or personal factors, while others may emphasize the importance of helping those in need. It is important to note that poverty itself is not seen as a sin or something inherently wrong, but rather actions or situations that perpetuate poverty might be considered unethical or sinful by certain belief systems.

It isn't a sin per say but it makes you more vulnerable to sin when you are poor.

It's not a sin. But being poor comes with a lot of struggle to survive and many get into crimes to survive.

I respect their notion about it. Some philantrophists think that living in this world is the place of hell. They claimed that hell is being here on Earth because of the sufferings and being in poverty.

I think living in poverty is just like a situation that most people can't avoid it. There are people that have really tried and things seems not to work out for them.

Try your level best to lift from your present condition, but if it is inevitable then accept it with happiness.

No, and wealth isn' t a virtue either.

Life is frequently unfair, and people often don't get what they deserve.

Yes, but on the other hand, rich people have more opportunities to do terrible things because money helps them to get away with it.

This is an obvious lie. You can't easily convince a rich man to engage in petty crimes.

I do not see living in poverty as a sin. Some people cannot afford to have a good education and they can only work in low paying jobs.

I would not want to live in poverty. God knows I would turn to a gigolo if I am poor.

Poverty isn't a sin, it is circumstantial. Those living on this may uplift their lives through hard work, and through the help of the government.

That's not what I said at all. I said that rich people have more opportunity to do TERRIBLE THINGS (not petty crimes) because money helps them get away with it. What I mean is that they can more easily get away with serious crimes like rape and murder, by paying off witnesses, having better lawyers etc. It happens all the time.

Though come to think of it, would you consider recreational use of illegal drugs to be a petty crime? Because plenty of rich people do that, and don't seem to need much convincing.

I don't consider poverty a sin, it is always in our hands to change our condition, the problem is that poor people sometimes don't have the means to pay for education and education is fundamental to change people's situation. Knowledge is power and I have seem many poor people that are now living a good and comfortable life because the worked hard and studied to get out of their situation.

Living in poverty is not a sin but choosing to remain in poverty om the other hand, now that's might be considered as one. And people who are poor might be easily tempted to do things they should not just to make money.

No it is not a sin. If you do not commit crime in order to survive, then it is not a sin. Poor people could still do good deeds despite poor.

Living in poverty is not a sin and we also do not have the right to mock the poor, we do not know their struggles and how they become poor. It is better to help and understand their worst situations to elevate their morale and give them hope and inspiration to uplift their living.
