Ask Lexi (about me and for advice if you dare)

Postby Lexi » 25 Sep 2016, 22:35

You can ask for my advice, opinions, or about me. Obviously nothing rude or too personal...

I have lot of questions to ask, for now these :D

1. What are some of the things you advise newbies not to do online?

2. What you wish you'd knew before started making money online?

3. How's your daily routine on freelance or other projects?

4. What's your day job?

I look to you for inspiration, and would really like to know how you stay motivated to continue with all your projects?

TIA :)

Hi Lexi,

How many projects are you currently working on daily?

What is your favorite subject to write about?

I have way too many projects, but I don't work on them each day. Sometimes a manuscript or article needs a few days before I can go back and edit it or redraft it. Currently I have a couple of novels on the go (some are finished), a couple of spiritual guides, several articles lined up for my blogs, and a couple of historical books I have been researching.

My favorite subject is a blend of spiritual philosophy which comes naturally, and then beauty products because I know about them and love using them. My original plan was to be a fashion writer until I found out how bad the pay was when I was an intern.

I have several favorite authors, mainly classical ones, so here are my top three:

Nathaniel Hawthorne ~ The Scarlet Letter
Fyodor Dostoyevsky ~ Crime and Punishment
Plato ~ The Republic

One of my other favorite books is by Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin, who wrote The Golovlyov Family. I would like to write a screenplay for the novel which highlights serfdom in Russia with dark humor. I studied Russian literature and English literature at University, and I like novels with flawed heroes, which influences my own writing.

I'm currently single, but more out of choice with what I am doing at present.

1. What are some of the things you advise newbies not to do online?

I would recommend them to keep their social media accounts and emails separate, not to give out too much personal information, and to take breaks. Forcing yourself to do things can result in sub standard results.

2. What you wish you'd knew before started making money online?
I don't really classify myself as someone who makes money online, but I have done with a few sites which I have abandoned for various reasons.

3. How's your daily routine on freelance or other projects?
I have several blogs and sites I am building up. One has several affiliate brands and so looking after them and updating the site is often unexpected work when a brand emails with an exclusive offer and I have to write a post on the spot. Currently I have several books I need editing and proofing before I submit them to publishers, so I juggle writing articles, editing, and also starting some new novels and books. There is a lot going on in my head and my wrists can't write fast enough.

4. What's your day job?
I am a starving writer

I'm currently in England, but my ideal place would be a beach hut by the sea somewhere much warmer than English temperatures.

I've been freelancing for over a decade, and am taking time out to write some books, then maybe back to study for a different degree, depending on other factors.

No, online I tend to use the names of the characters I am creating at the time.

I don't like to use my real name either. I think using the names of your characters is a neat idea. Does it help you really "feel" or get into the characters more?

It makes them more real, but I usually base a character around a couple of people I know or have met. This one I use because I am rewriting some scenes and I am developing the character right now, so it helps having the name in front of me.

I freelanced in a different area called crisis management. I had been head hunted for various roles, and nearly all clients use a confidentiality clause. I changed direction because due to the nature of the work involved, MI5 got involved, and the company I was working for basically lied about matters of national security.

I had no choice but to become a whisteblower, and which is why I take a firm stance against people who are less than honest or ethical. Anyone associated with them becomes a target, and thus security will check profiles on websites and forums of people, and then use anything they say to build a case against them if they are suspects. It's all about profiling and that's why one should be careful about agreeing with someone on website, in a comment or post. One day the memoirs will come out, but not just yet.

That's shocking Lexi, sorry to hear you had to go through all of that. Sounds like you have a great story to tell. I look forward to reading it someday.

Have you heard about the Philippines especially its President who tends to become a dictator? Do you think in your way of perception could he complete his 6 terms of office for that kind of attitude? And why?
