When You Can't Have A Drink? My Story.

When you can’t have a drink? My story.

Personally, I am close to a person with a drinking problem. I do not cause a scene about how unfair it is because I cannot drink around this person. Over the years, I have developed skills to manage. The following are a few skills:

Be your own mocktail bartender!

—I used to work at a cafe. I thought how nice that it would be if we served mocktails. So, I spoke about my thoughts to the supervisor and the supervisor said that mocktails could be triggers. I totally disagree. The cafe sells Dr. Pepper. Does that mean that the person is going to crave a “flaming Dr. Pepper” cocktail?

Watch an exercise video on YouTube!

—There is a lady on YouTube who teaches Tai Chi. I keep telling myself that I am going to learn from her.

Cook a comfort meal!

—I do pantry challenges!

Prepare some no-bakes!

—I grab a pair of latex gloves and get out a jar of peanut butter, oats and some pancake syrup. Mix. Roll into balls or form into cookies! Feel like drinking? Voila!

Take up a new hobby!

—Are you good with any crafts? Watch some tutorials on YouTube! I have a friend who watches craft tutorials constantly!

Clean up around your house and donate unused items!

—My house is going to be inspected soon. My bedroom office is packed with cookbooks. I had 4 crates of items taken to my basement. 1 more crate to be taken to the basement today. It’s hilarious that the cookbooks get to stay.

Take a siesta!

—I like to take siestas and cuddle with the pet cat. (thank goodness that the pet is not a dog!)

Prepare freezer sandwiches!

—Take a sandwich out of the freezer. Have a meal ready in a matter of a few!

Plan a staycation!

—I like to save up my money for future purchases online. Then, when a rainy day comes, I like to buy myself a gift. For example, I like to browse on https://www.Poshmark.com.

Brew a couple cups of coffee!

—In a cool climate, cuddle up in a warm blanket after the coffee is brewed and listen to the birds chirp outside the window. In a warm climate, why not have some iced coffee?

So, I guess that covers what I do when I need a drink but cannot have a drink. From mocktails to coffee.

Good for you recognising a potential problem and doing something about it. Mocktails are great. At Christmas I like to put candied Rosellas (fruit of native Hibiscus) into lemonade which feels festive.

Sometimes at parties I used to walk around with a drink so that people would stop offering me one. It doesn't have to be alcoholic either, since you can't tell by looking at it. When I was pregnant and didn't want people to know yet I carried around a glass of non alcoholic wine all night so people wouldn't keep trying to get me to drink.

A couple of years ago, I prepared some mocktails for a few friends. The friends said that the friends felt woozy. Totally innocent drinks as there was no alcohol. We laughed!

I just got hold of some peach juice on sale. I want to make something like a non alcohilic Bellini.

I had a bag of frozen peaches and did not know that to do with the darn peaches recently! So, I prepared a pitcher of homemade peach smoothie! I only blended peaches, milk, peanut butter, eggs and zero calorie artificial sweetener.

Guess what? I have a huge jar of peaches in the kitchen cupboard!

Thank you for sharing this. Being around someone with an alcohol problem can be very difficult and often brings social and emotional challenges. It's normal to feel that things are not fair, especially if you are holding back from doing the things you love to avoid drama.

The important thing is to realize that you can't carry the burden all by yourself. Having your boundaries and protecting yourself is a big step. Also, talking to someone you trust or seeking support from friends or family can help reduce the pressure.

I'm glad to say I'm not a big drinker. I grew up with alcohol around me, and it scarred me for life. Even now, many of my friends and family love a drink. Botswana has an unhealthy drinking culture, and that really breaks my heart. All of this has put me right off drinking, so I tend to only have a couple of drinks socially, especially if I'm driving. Or I might have a small glass with dinner. I absolutely love mocktails!!

I have a 12-pack of pineapple coconut sparkling water. I dislike the taste. However, I have been thinking of preparing "Jam/Jelly Drink" which is a mocktail.

You mix any flavor sparkling water with any flavor jam/jelly.

Voila!

Planning a staycation is a great way to relax without spending a fortune on a long trip. I love finding a nice hotel in town or even just staying at home while cooking delicious meals and watching a great movie. It really helps to refresh your mind and restore your energy to work without the stress of traveling.

Your strategy for saving for future gifts is very smart. Poshmark is a great place to find unique items at affordable prices while staying at home. While you continue to indulge in those gifts, remember to also protect your financial interests by getting a prenup early so that your hard-earned assets remain safe forever.

I have a plan!

Tonight, I am going to prepare my food diary for tomorrow! I attempt to do so every night.

I like to have a comfort meal once a day.

Then, I plan on cleaning out the fridge tonight!

Next, I am craving a New York Egg Cream, but cannot get the ingredients until Monday! :( :(

This weekend, I would like to prepare some no-bake energy balls!

What is your plan?

Taking a nap and relaxing with your cat is a great way to re-energize after a hard day's work. It helps your mind calm down and your body regain its strength to continue with your activities. It's important to protect your downtime so you can make smart decisions about your retirement and future legal plans.
