Do you have the discipline to run a successful business from home?

Postby Lushh » 15 Jan 2025, 15:07

By successful I mean earn a sustainable living. Somehow it seems easier to get up everyday and follow a schedule given by an outside employer. The routine is to set an alarm, get ready and leave out on time in order not to be late. On the job, work is done with purpose and with focus on completing assigned tasks.

What is the attitude when it comes to one's own business ventures, particularly working from home? There's no supervisor walking around so really what's to stop a person from sleeping for 4 hours in the middle of work? There's food galore and tv for entertainment. Being on your own time, you can text and chat all day. Before you know it 8 hours fly by and there's nothing to show for it. The earnings for the day may not be sufficient to cover even the bag of chips consumed.

My conclusion is that it takes discipline to earn any significant income when you are in the comfort of your home. I know for some, this is not hard at all because they've been doing it for years and they also realise that if they don't treat their home business with the same respect as going to work for someone else then they won't get paid.

I would say yes but I think for long term I will prefer a hybrid option

It's good when you have the discipline because you don't need to put up with workplace issues you'd rather avoid. Hybrid option is kinda cool too. You're less likely to get bored in one spot. One day you're here, next day you're somewhere else.

I am quite sure any outside authority that examined my daily practices would come to the conclusion I am far from qualified to succeed at any business I might undertake to run from home. It's too tempting to jump online and participate in other activities purely for pleasure, while your business melts away in the background. However, my country's founding fathers must have realized that this would be the path most of us would take, so they implemented Social Security to take enough of my daily earnings (no matter how loud I cried about it) so they could feed them back to me after I retired from daily work. At least in my case, this was to ensure that the problem could be overcome with minimal effort.

Working on a New Side-Hustle

Since age is no longer creeping up on me, but rushing in like an NFL ball carrier on 4th down from the 1 yard line. it's very simple.

Working from home can be very cool you will have all the time to yourself and you don’t have to always be in a hurry to attend to clients working from home will enable you to plan your schedules accordingly and with more discipline and flexibility

Having a hybrid approach like working for 2-3 days from home and remaining from the office is the best. It saves you from boredom and you can still maintain physical touch with your team members

Been running my own business from home for over 20 years. It takes discipline, motivation and focus. Having a sense that you know what needs doing and a vision also helps.

To run a successful business from home, you would need to understand that time for business is time for business. You just need time prioritisation to succeed with that.

Yea, this is often the case with some who work from home. Others in the home just see it as them being home, not at work. For this reason some have set up their work space in an isolated spot, shutting out the other people during a certain time frame.

Yes that's true, they don't even take you seriously majority of the time, especially if what you do does not generate money instantly for them to see.
