Salads Year-Round

Postby Spontaneo » 18 Nov 2024, 15:28

Salads are the best to prepare whether for a family gathering, hostess gift, potluck, shower, graduation, etc. You can have them year-round, not just winter or summer. They are inexpensive also!

Below are a few salads to get you thinking!

Potato salad

Personally, I like russets. So, I would not use small and waxy as the below recipe suggests. Other than that, the recipe is awesome!

Macaroni salad

I love to go to outdoor outings where macaroni is a staple.

Pasta salad

My mother never taught myself how to cook, but she did teach myself how to prepare pasta salad! Thank you mother Rose! For Thanksgiving this year, I am preparing… guess what? Yep. Pasta salad! Below is a tasty recipe!

Taco salad

I am practical when it comes to taco salad. I crumble up a burger, mix with on the border cafe style tortilla chips, melt some American cheese and pour Kraft Classic Catalina on top. The below recipe uses Doritos which I have prepared in the past and sure tastes good.

Egg salad

This egg salad recipe is awesome but I would simply use yellow mustard instead of Dijon. Over this past summer, I went to a yard sale and bought an egg cooker. A best investment! You should really buy an egg cooker instead of standing over a pot of boiling water forever piercing with a fork.

Fruit salad

Instead of buying all kinds of fruit and cutting all of the fruit, all you need is canned fruit cocktail!

https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/16125 ... -salad-ii/

Cucumber salad

The below stands out to myself as I do not really like onions. I do not think that dill weed is really essential.

https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/65442 ... ber-salad/

Pistachio Salad

I think that pistachio salad would be super good for a baby shower or bridal shower.

Fluff

Former roommates both have prepared fluff in the past and a neighbor prepares every-so-often. I love the whip cream!

So, there you have it! My run down on year-round salads!

Finally, what is your favorite salad? Do you prepare salads on special occasions? Why do you like that certain salad?

Thank you!

I love salads, they feel like a light, healthy and refreshing meal. Although they can be enjoyed all year round, I particularly like them in the summer.

There is no denying the fact that salads are awesome, but over here making salads is pretty expensive, especially if you want to garnish it well.

Fluff looks like a 70's recipe. I used to have a cookbook from the 70s and a lot of the recipes used jelly crystals like that. I'd consider that one a dessert rather than a salad. Same with the pistachio one.

I don't make salads very often, although I do eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. I enjoy a simple garden salad. Sometimes I add roast pumpkin or roast beetroot and chickpeas or lentils. Greek salad is also nice, but I haven't found a vegan feta with a texture like Greek feta.
I made this vegan Ceasar salad a while ago and it was nice.

Are you able to grow your own vegetables? Do you have discount stores?

Haven't you ever eaten a fruit salad? A few salads may be like desserts but still considered salads.

Yes. I would consider a fruit salad to be a salad because it has fresh fruit in it, and usually salads have some form of fresh fruit or vegetables. That's kind of the point of them in my opinion- they are a way to get the benefits of eating fresh fruit and veg. Desserts are nice, but they're just for fun, not usually so much for their nutritional benefits. Of course you can call a dish you make whatever you like.

I love how salads can fit any occasion, too. My favorite is definitely pasta salad—especially with Italian dressing and fresh veggies, it’s a hit at every potluck.

I just hope that my friends have room in their fridge for the pasta salad. LOL I don't want to tell them what I am bringing. I want the pasta salad to be a surprise. ;)

As I am away for the Thanksgiving holiday, I prepared a big pasta salad and a small pasta salad. One friend that I am staying with was at her family's for most of the day. My other friend had eaten a big lunch. So, hopefully, tomorrow, my pasta salads may go over better.

This morning, I am going to prepare egg salad! I dislike peeling the eggs, but worth the task! I don't know whether to prepare 1 batch or 2 batches. I think that I have just enough mayonnaise!

Should I have egg salad with oatmeal or with mashed potatoes?

I forgot to mention tuna salad! How could I forget?

I have egg salad in the fridge. I have tuna salad in the fridge. Now I want to prepare some Hammy Sammy!

Your salad link seems delicious. I would simply do without the croutons and buy store-bought bread croutons and omit the capers. ,

@Netherrealmer, I apologize for your need to give myself a -1 reputation point.

The previous post was submitted in December. Being so many months apart, I thought that I could save such topic and get more attention to such topic.

No. I did not forget. I have explained above.

If I had to pick a favorite, I’d go with a Mediterranean chickpea salad—fresh, packed with flavor, and super satisfying. The mix of chickpeas, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, red onions, feta cheese, and a zesty lemon-garlic dressing perfectly balances crunch, creaminess, and tang.

Do you think that mozzarella would be good?

Today, I have found enough ingredients in my pantry for 3 different salads!

2 jars of mayonnaise and 4 containers of sour cream! ;) ;)

I can prepare egg salad, tuna salad and Hammy Sammy!

Yay!

Okay, sir, that yellow mustard alternative is really cool. And your egg cooker story reminds me of how tired I am of cooking eggs in a pot every day. It's true that sweltering in hot water for hours is a torturous job.

The proverb says that the one who raises a male does not stop vaccinating. So buy your egg cooker and be saved from the worry of cracking eggs with a fork. It's very easy and it will save you a lot of time in your life.

At the end of the day, when you have your delicious egg salad, you will wonder why you didn't think of it sooner. At the end of the day, you will be encouraged that you bought that good device. Do it, don't be afraid, one beginning brings a good end.

Haha that's a really neat tip. Yellow mustard takes the flavor away from the Dijon and makes the egg salad easier and less spicy. And that egg cooker you got at the yard sale is a real jackpot because it saves you the stress of standing over a pot with boiling water. It's a saying that says eat fish while it's still raw. An egg cooker is a small investment but it makes life in the kitchen smoother and time saving.
