Making Money Writing Children Books

Postby Mika » 11 Mar 2024, 12:06

According to The Business Research Company, the global market size for children books was 11 billion USD on 2023 and in 2024, it is expected to cross 12 billion USD. Based on this data you can understand how big the market is. Therefore, if you're good at writing and if you understand children’s mind, you can make money by writing for children. The best thing about writing for children is you do not have to write hundreds of pages, 10-12 pages will make a good book for children, thus, writing children books is easier than writing books for grown-ups. If you enjoy talking to kids, if you enjoy hanging out with kids, and if you spend a couple of hours with kids, you can easily get ideas about children books.

Children's books need pictures. If you cannot draw yourself, you will have to work with artists. But don't worry, you can find artists on Fiverr or Upwork. You can also use AI tools to generate pictures for your children books. If you feed appropriate prompt to the AI, you can generate great pictures for your children books.

Once your book is done, you can sell it as an ebook, a printed book, a mobile app, or a video. The best platform to sell ebooks and print book is of course Amazon. Go to Amazon Kindle and publish your manuscript as an ebook and paperback. You can also create an app for your children book and offer it on Play Store or App Store. Creating a video and publishing the video on youtube can also help you make money. Selling your book in different formats can help you make more money.

If you have published your book on Amazon, you can run ads on Amazon and try to reach your buyers. You can also advertise on Facebook. If you target your ads to parents or teachers, you can easily sell. If you are offering your book as a mobile app, you can advertise through Admob or Facebook App.

Perhaps you are wondering what kind of children books you should be writing. Well, first and foremost, you need to understand the audience. Children are diverse age group, the books that appeal to 3 years old kid will not be appropriate for 10 years old. Therefore, first and foremost, you need to understand your audience and write accordingly. If you are writing for 3 years old kid, you can write simple animal stories, and if you are writing for 10 years old, you can write about mystery, adventure, science, and technology.

This is another one that's easier said than done. Just because children's books are shorter doesn't mean they're easier to write, at least not if you want them to be good. I say this as a writer who works with children. Children don't want to just listen to, or read any old rubbish. They need books that really capture their attention. Books with words that rhyme properly, or are fun to say, or have stories with the kind of humour they enjoy, or which speak to things that they understand.

The illustrations are the main selling point in picture books, so just hiring an artist from Fiver or Upwork will be a crapshoot. Maybe their work will be good, maybe not. Then even if your finished product is really good, you've got to market it well to be successful. Lots of very good books just don't sell well.

By all means have a go at this if you want to, but don't go into it thinking it will be a quick and easy way to make money, because it probably won't be. It's definitely worth doing if you actually want to do it, like you have something you really want to say, a book you really want to write. Then you will get something out of it even if it's not a financial success.

One should decide whether you will illustrate your books yourself or collaborate with an illustrator. High-quality illustrations are essential for children's books, as they enhance the storytelling experience and attract young readers.

While making money writing children's books requires dedication, creativity, and persistence, it can also be a rewarding journey filled with the joy of inspiring young readers and sharing stories that resonate with them.

It is good way to earn handsome money, but it required expertise and can't be reach UpTo some standard by only using different tools.

I agree. Just because you have ability to write does not mean you can actually write a children book that kids will like. You need to understand the psychology of your audience.
