Pop Are you still eating meat??

Postby sweerie_banana » 11 Jul 2023, 09:29

There are a couple of reasons why people choose to fight shy of eating meat. Here are some of the main reasons:

Environmental influence: The production of meat, particularly from factory farming, has a significant impact on the environment. It contributes to deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution, and excessive water and land usage. By reducing or eliminating meat consumption, individuals can help reduce their carbon footprint and promote environmental sustainability.

Animal Welfare: Many people choose to avoid eating meat due to concerns about animal welfare. The conditions in which animals are often raised in factory farms can involve confinement, overcrowding, and the use of hormones and antibiotics. By abstaining from meat, individuals can support the ethical treatment of animals and promote more humane farming practices.

Health Benefits: A well-planned vegetarian or vegan diet can provide all the necessary nutrients for a healthy lifestyle. Studies have shown that plant-based diets are associated with lower risks of obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Plant-based diets can be rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and nuts, which provide essential vitamins, minerals, fiber, and healthy fats.

Antibiotic Resistance: The routine use of antibiotics in animal agriculture contributes to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which poses a significant public health concern. By reducing meat consumption, individuals can help mitigate the overuse of antibiotics and minimize the risk of antibiotic resistance.

Global Food Security: Producing meat requires large amounts of land, water, and resources. As the world's population continues to grow, feeding everyone will become increasingly challenging. A shift towards plant-based diets can help alleviate pressure on global food resources and contribute to improved food security.

It's important to note that everyone has different dietary needs and preferences, and a well-balanced diet can be achieved with or without meat. It's advisable to consult with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian when making significant changes to your diet to ensure you are meeting your nutritional requirements.

All the best!.

I am not a meat lover, I only eat chicken, pork and beef and only 2 or 3 times a week. I am not a fundamentalist but I only buy meat with the animal welfare guarantee seal and organic.

I haven't eaten meat in decades. I don't miss it, and I'm pretty healthy. For me it's mainly about animal welfare, but also the environment.

I seriously feel bad when I consume meat. When we drive past farms and I see the cows gracefully grazing in the pastures, I think to myself... how can I do such a bad thing to them?

Many years ago, I attempted to go vegetarian, but after many months, I got so weak that I needed a burger.

I have trained myself to consume alot of air fryer potatoes. I use many different sauces on them so as not to get too bored. For example, ranch dressing, hot sauce, mustard, pizza sauce, etc.

I also eat meat quite often but I seriously feel bad afterwards. I have definitely reduced my intake, and hopefully one day I'll be able to withstand my cravings.

I'm so impressed by most of your comments.

I eat meat and REFUSE to give it up  I have however, cut right back on red meat and tend to lean more on chicken and fish. Being in a landlocked country, fish is imported, so it's expensive. I only have red meatoncv a week.

If people live healthy lives without meat (and we do) it cannot actually be essential.

What does age have to do with it? I'm genuinely curious, since I know people who have been vegetarian since birth, and personally haven't eaten meat since I was 21.

It is so true that antibiotics resistance can occur as a result of eating meat.. That is why one has to stick to organic livestock farms if he or she has to eat meat.
