Pop The Most practical Martial Arts

Postby Netherrealmer » 22 May 2023, 15:05

Many people takes Martial art lessons because they want to learn how to defend themselves, while other wants to be badass and others want to make a career out of it. With the rising numbers of crime rate learning Martial arts is a must especially to women. For sure Gun is still the ultimate self defence but In close combat Martial arts is still more practical.

Many Martial arts though are waste of time because they are nothing but glorified dances. They look good in movies but impractical and useless in real life. I had seen kickboxers beat the crap out of Grandmasters with black belt. So Taekwondo, Wushu,Wing Chun,Old school Karate,Ninjutsu, Capoeira,Eagle stance Kung fu and all animal based Kung-fu are useless in real life. They will make you memorize stances, Katas and poomsae and all those dances that will be useless in real life. Well they make good exercises but not self defence.

There is no practical use unless you want a movie career since they look good in scripted fights. Learning how to split and breaking boards is a waste of time and money.

These are the Martial Arts You need to learn if you want to know how to defend yourself.

Muay Thai- This Thai Martial arts is not only proven an effective self defence but it also proven to be good for the health since it burns the most calories from all the Martial Arts I mentioned. It is an effective Workout but at the same time a practical self defence and You wont need to memorize 100s of Karate Katas and Kung-fu stands. No useless fancy schmancy, it teaches you to fight right away. Its only weakness is against grapplers but How many grapplers are there in the streets?. Most robbers and muggers have no training, so Muay does work as a self defence. Here is a Clip of Sagat, yes that Sagat training one of his students.

Sagat is not just a Champion Muay Thai master, He is an effective Real life Street fighter. He fought 20 men at the same time when 20 of then tried ganging up on him. if he can solo 20 men, then its worth learning. That is a sign he can beat someone like Bruce Lee IRL, Why there is no movie about Sagat's life yet.Sagat won 450 fights on his career.

Krav Maga-
Image
This scene shows what happens when a Karate practitioner fought a Krav maga Practitioner.

This Martial Arts is Invented by the Israeli Army, It's so practical because it focuses on destroying your enemy's weakness,The Balls. Yes this Martial arts have moves that are banned in MMA fights because its focusing on destroying the Balls. Majority of robbers and muggers are men, so the easiest way to knock them down is destroy their nuts.If all women will learn Krav Maga the rates of raping will drop. Aside from attacking the balls, Krav Maga encourages attacking the throat, eyes and other weak spots. No more need for Cartwheel kicks and splits, Just attack the balls, eyes and throat.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu= Popularized by the Gracie family from Brazil. Almost every son and daughter from this family had a successful MMA career. Look at this victory compilation of Royce Gracie's winning streak against diverse martial arts:

For a Long time Brazilian Jiu Jitsu dominated the MMA scene.Brazilian Jiu jitsu is a grappling based Martial arts and it had defeated different forms of Kung-Fu, Karate, boxing Taekwondo and many more mainstream Martial arts had been defeated by BJJ. The Gracie family became a dynasty in the world of MMA for a reason.

Judo-

Judo is a grappling Martial arts that also teaches you how throw people bigger than You and stronger than You. It is one of the few Martial arts that is able to beat BJJ. It is an affective self defence because it can help you beat someone stronger and bigger than you. It is also awakens an instinct on you to throw anyone who will attack you rather than making the first move.

Kali- also known as Arnis and Escrima is a Martial Arts from the Phillippines, that focuses on using any object you can grab with your hands. Arnis fighters usually uses Kali sticks but any long object that is hard can be used as a weapon. Kali is so effective it is what the US Military teaches to Soldiers but they uses combat knives instead of Kali sticks. From an Umbrella to a Pen, anything can be a weapon to a Kali practitioner, Heck there is even weaponless Kali. Arnis even have counters against grapplers.

Look how you can use a simple pen to save your life from a person who wants to kill you.

In our ECA class, I had to learn Taekwondo. I could not learn anything as we had just one 30-minute session per week. That was a long time ago.

Very interesting, thanks for writing that article @Netherrealmer. Kali sounds very useful, I don't remember hearing of that martial art before. Which of those martial arts do you think would be most useful for an older person to learn?

My husband had Judo lessons when he was younger. My son doesn't like martial arts and my daughter was born with a problem with her leg, she went surgery and she is well now but there are some things she can't do but I wanted them to learn some self-defense practice, it can be very useful for them in the future.

Krav Maga, I mean it targets the balls so its straight to the point, No more need to memorize useless dances you cannot use in real fight. Also look at Israel it is surrounded by enemies yet its still going strong. It was born out of necessity. Kali is used by the US military so it is useful. Taekwondo is a waste of time, You wont be defending yourself from memorizing a dance and breaking boards. Kali also have reversals against defences.

I have always thought that Krav Maga was a very difficult and hard martial art to learn. I must search but I haven't seen Krav Maga lessons around here.

Its the easiest, You wont be memorizing dances and stances like Taekwondo and Karate. You wont break boards, you wont need to learn how to split. It works against rape.

I always find Taekwondo useless. Thank you, it is a good martial art for a girl to learn. a woman that can defend herself is a powerful woman.

That's an interesting article. I got to know of some interesting types of Martial arts.. My husband learnt karate in his growing up years. I was very much keen that my daughters learn some self defence skills. I enrolled them in karate classes but they showed no interest and dropped. One should know some self defence technique in today's time. It's so much needed.

They just have to make sure it is a practical Martial arts and not useless ones like Taekwondo, Wing Chun,Tai Chi ,Russian Slap and Ninjutsu (Ninjas looks cool on movies but in real life a boxer can beat the crap out of a ninja)

Do not waste your time in Kung-fun unless you are pursuing a movie career.

An Ip-man trained Wing-Chun grandmaster lost to a one armed boxer

Wing-Chun was the Kung-Fu Bruce Lee use to practice but he invented Jeet Kune Do after realizing how impractical it is. Bruce Lee won a match against a Wing-Chun Grandmaster with Jeet Kune Do. Which he invented after realize the waste of time practices of Kung-fu.

I've always though of doing boxing. Boxing is a Western martial art that centers on punches, footwork, and head movement.

Boxers can beat Kung Fu masters that's how useless Kung-Fu is and I warn people to not waste money to it

Most of these types of Martial styles you have later mentioned I have just learnt of them after reading the article, the common ones are the ones I have known for a while. I like the argument that it is not in most times that a fight needs you to have Coordinated skills. I will research more about the new ones that you have shared. Particularly I liked the Muay Thai.

It might be more beneficial to appreciate the diversity within the martial arts community. People practice martial arts for various reasons, such as self-defense, fitness, mental discipline, and cultural enrichment.

Carson Muay Thai is known as the Art of Eight Limbs.

Unless you want to do action movies, do not waste money in Kung Fu. An amateur boxer can beat a Kung fu grandmaster is a redflag

Some recomend capoeira. It is Brazilian combination of dance and martial arts. It is relaxing in dance part but still can help in defense against attackers. Not recomended for smaller spaces.

I don't think capoeira is practical, its too acrobatic for senior citizens and chubby people to learn.

I am just feeling good about the Kali martial arts. The skill of turning into a weapon is something that could be very valuable when one has an unexpected attack.
