Pop Social Media Safety

Postby Netherrealmer » 13 Jul 2022, 15:54

Social media can be fun because it connects you with people from around the world, but it can also ruin your life because some things you post there last forever. One of the easiest ways to avoid the dangers of Social media is to prevent it, but you can still be active in Social Media while keeping yourself safe.

Here are some tips I can give:

If you want to discuss politics, Do not use your public account. Politicians have paid troll armies, and they will target you if you disagree with their cause. I do not use my personal social media for my privacy sake. I made an anonymous private account for that purpose. My Private account is unknown to my family and friends because I have different beliefs from them, and many of my opinions will offend them. Many people also got fired from their job because of political thoughts.

If you do not want to get cyberbullied, then don't be a Cyberbully yourself. Even if a person is too offensive for you, Criticizing someone you don't personally know could lead to that person committing suicide. If you think someone is nasty, report them and do not engage.

If you are on vacation, Do not post pictures while you are gone. It is like an open invitation to burglars to attack your home. Post about it after your trip once you are at home. Also, do not boast about expensive things you purchase because it makes you a target.

Do not have the same password for all your online accounts. Once a hacker figures out your account's password, they will try to use it for your other accounts. It is also why I do not have the same username on every platform I join because it makes me an easy target for hackers. I knew someone who had the same username on all platforms he entered and had the same password, and with ease, the hacker got to steal most of his soc media account, and his account got used for flooding spam and other malicious things.

Do not click a link without knowing where it came from! If you want to avoid becoming a Phishing victim, do not just click any links offered to you. You can open it in an incognito window, and if it asks you to log in, that is a phishing link, especially if the link came from a new account.

Very good advices. Most of my friends are show offs, they love to broadcast tgeir holuday trips, dinning and expensive stuff they bought to the social medias. Never include your real information on any platform. Always input false info

Good advice to follow. Years ago, I voiced my opinion and stepped on all the wrong toes. So, I now keep to myself.

When I had a Facebook account, I got hacked. So, I changed my password. Guess what? I got hacked again!

Again, good advice.

I thinks one should steer clear of oversharing. When you post personal information on social media you make yourself, your loved ones and even your physical belongings a target for local and online criminals. Avoid posting names, phone numbers, addresses, school and work locations, and other sensitive information as text or in a photo.

Using unique Passwords and Usernames on different site tips is really interesting. Till now I am using the same username on different sites for easy recognition but from now I will use unique usernames.

Don't share your regular activies on your social media. Like every Friday in gym at 15h. Of course everybody will know where you are Friday afternoon when you told everbody.
Also with option follow, I guess nobody check who actually follow them.

Thanks for the tips, I follow all these and by nature, I am not interested in Politics and I know things can go out of control on Social networking websites so I don't post anything like that on these and this is one of the ways to stay safe and safe from bullying

ohh...😮 I've learnt not to use my real name on social media, I either shorten it to sound like something else entirely or use a Nickname. Some people do as themselves question like * how did the burglar knew I have this***... The answers should be "they here too exposed on social media". Thanks for this great tips, this will also go a long way.

Thanks for your useful advices. Some of my ex classmates are a bunch of boasters. They would share photos of the holiday places they recently been to or currently at that place, expensive handbags, house, pets, etc to show off their lavish lifestyle

I think it is fine to use your real name, however, you should avoid sharing your personal details such as email, phone number, exact location, etc.

In this case, can we her employer spy her on social media? Can we say Twitter is personal space and employer don't have rights use it at work? In this specific case, she uses bad language but if she don't use it at work, she didn't break rules. Right?

I always give this advice to my family and friends but some just don't care and post about their holidays while they still are out. this behavior just opens the possibility of a burglar assaulting their house.
Another warning I always give them is that they don't post while they are at work, it could be grounds for dismissal.

I get to understand your point here the more about few days ago when a young student got apprehended due to his post about politics on Twitter.
