Pop How to save yourself from a heartbreak of an American tv show cancellation!

Postby Netherrealmer » 04 Jun 2021, 15:38

One thing I don't like about American Television is that Tv Networks and streaming services cancel shows when their ratings are low or if an actor from the show goes cancel cultured. I know this can be seen as a shallow reason but it stings to me whenever a show I like got canceled. Asian television just makes a rush ending for a show so the fans will still have closure if the ratings are low. That is not the case with American tv. American Tv Networks and Streaming originals cancel like crazy. This tutorial will save you from the first world problem of TV cancellations.

I remember Netflix use to be seen as a saint that rescues canceled tv shows but right now Netflix had been canceling shows even if they have good ratings and win awards. With the help of technology,Business economics and Marketing I can give you tips on how to know if a show will be canceled. So you wont need to watch it only to be upset.

1. Know what kind of Network airs the show. ABC, Fox, and Netflix have a bad reputation for canceling shows. Netflix usually cancel shows after 1 to 2 seasons. Low-budget Netflix shows have lower chances to be canceled than higher-budget shows that fail to deliver. Fox will cancel a show before the season is even over because they have high expectations. CBS cancels the least, You can see many of their shows lasted multiple seasons. They give chances to some low rating shows to build a fanbase. Cable TV Networks cancels the least, for them a rating of 1.5 Million ratings is already a win. Free TV Networks are thirstier for higher ratings because of sponsors. That is just how the business goes. Amazon Prime and Disney Plus don't cancel originals at this moment. So that makes themslightly better than Netflix.

2.How many Americans watch the show?
There are Shows with a high social media presence because they got popularity from foreign countries. American Networks don't care about the foreign audience that watches their show from the channels that syndicated them. It is all about the American audience they care about. So even if a show has a high social media presence if the watchers are not from the US, it has a chance of cancelation. Santa Clarita Diet is a globally popular Netflix show but they canceled it because it didn't draw in the US. That show has a high social media presence. The subreddit of the show has a very active community but they are not Americans. So the show got canceled. This doesn't apply though to Networks that are not serials cancelers. You can see if the show trends on Twitter in the US, I set my Twitter account to American and it gives me the idea which shows find an American audience. There are shows that I almost watched but don't trend on US Twitter. That saved me from heartbreaks because those shows did get canceled.

3. Don't watch a show until it's finished. I watched Game of Thrones, The Good Place, Orphan Black, and Fresh off the boat after they have a complete run. These shows are finished and completed so I don't need to worry about them getting canceled when I binged them on streaming platforms. They have proper endings so I will not be haunted by not having any closure. A series that is completed gives you psychological safety because no one will cancel a show that is ended.

4. Check the political belief of the actors. If the actor is way too political, there is a chance they will say something offensive have their show canceled. Roseanne is a Rating winner but its lead actress Roseanne Barr said something very offensive to some people. Her Show was canceled without hesitation. I avoid watching a new show if I know the lead actor is a cancel culture magnet.

5.Read the first impressions of the audience to the trailer.
First impressions last! Even if a show is good but if its trailer is badly received, It will be canceled. The show Selfie is really good but its shallow title and bad trailer destroyed it before it has a chance. If a show is on a high budget the first impressions of people are bad, it will never make the day.

I really hate it when episodes are rushed, you started off well everything is running smoothly then all of a sudden scenes are cut off, and boom! It's the last episode it's so annoying. I like the tips they make a lot of sense.

Avoid shows from Fox and ABC if they havent reached a 3rd season because A show from those Networks below season 2 are in danger of cancellation. High budget Netflix shows that hasn't passed season 3 are also in danger of cancelation.

CBS is a safe zone, I dont think their shows like Mom or Bob hearts Abisola are ratings winners but the first one lasted 7 seasons while the latter is renewed. SO CBS is not a cancelation freak. CW is also a safe zone because their shows are low budget.

Netflix just cancelled Jupiter Legacy and it has high ratings. The reason, the director asked for more budget when the series is worth 200 million. I will avoid high budget netflix shows unless they pass season 3. Low budgets shows are safer since all they needed to stay is 1 million viewers.

In Asian countries low ratings show just get a rush ending so the fans will still have their closure. American television will just cancel the show and not give you a closure. I don't trust Netflix, Fox and ABC because of their itch to cancel shows.

I will add to the list, Modern audience have low attention span, If the first three episodes of a show is slow paced, It will be cancelled even if the next episodes are better. World building is a thing of the past, The audience have adhd, They want flashiness on the first 3 episodes.

Sometimes canceled shows are better than the shows that are concluded because the ending disappoints a lot of people.

LOL. When I was growing up it seemed like TV shows would be on television forever! Which is why it was such a shock when Star Trek got cancelled. I have never forgiven the responsible parties for that decision.

Hello! Captain Kirk said it was 5-year mission! It was cancelled after 3 seasons, I don't care what kind of excuse they gave THERE WAS NO EXCUSE!!

My all time favourite show is the Australian drama Wentworth Prison. Very violent, sexual and action packed, just how I like my tv shows. After 9 seasons it has now finished for good but at least it finished on top as many of us are begging the producers to bring it back. I will definitely be in withdrawal for a while until I find a replacement.

I don't think it's shallow to feel heartbroken when a show gets cancelled. I don't worry much about what I watch being cancelled, I'd rather enjoy it until it lasts and take my chances.
I remember this one show called Battle Creek where the cast already knew the show was getting cancelled before the last episode of the season, and they made that episode really absurd. I appreciated that attitude.

I rather have that feeling than seeing a show cancelled with a cliff hanger ending. A show I watched just got cancelled the producer is looking for a new platform to save it, do hope it finds a new home.

It's kind of why I got hooked on Korean dramas. They last forever! At minimum you get 20 episodes with an ending that does not leave you hanging. Although there was one Korean drama that for some reason ... they dropped it! I never knew what happened. I tried to search for more episodes and all I found were articles saying the series would not be continued. I was devastated.

Show cancellation is rare with Asian television but it does happen, It is more prominent with American television though. Thats why I wait for a show to survive 3 seasons before I take the risk of getting invested. Or a first Season must get the national hype like Stranger things and Squid Game because hyped shows dont get canceled.

I do not watch television anymore. My "shows" consist of Roman Catholic Mass, Joyce Meyer Ministries and YouTube, of which all I watch on my Chromebook.

If Joyce Meyer Ministries ever stops, I have her books, DVDs, CDs and cassette tapes.
