One thing I don't like about American Television is that Tv Networks and streaming services cancel shows when their ratings are low or if an actor from the show goes cancel cultured. I know this can be seen as a shallow reason but it stings to me whenever a show I like got canceled. Asian television just makes a rush ending for a show so the fans will still have closure if the ratings are low. That is not the case with American tv. American Tv Networks and Streaming originals cancel like crazy. This tutorial will save you from the first world problem of TV cancellations.
I remember Netflix use to be seen as a saint that rescues canceled tv shows but right now Netflix had been canceling shows even if they have good ratings and win awards. With the help of technology,Business economics and Marketing I can give you tips on how to know if a show will be canceled. So you wont need to watch it only to be upset.
1. Know what kind of Network airs the show. ABC, Fox, and Netflix have a bad reputation for canceling shows. Netflix usually cancel shows after 1 to 2 seasons. Low-budget Netflix shows have lower chances to be canceled than higher-budget shows that fail to deliver. Fox will cancel a show before the season is even over because they have high expectations. CBS cancels the least, You can see many of their shows lasted multiple seasons. They give chances to some low rating shows to build a fanbase. Cable TV Networks cancels the least, for them a rating of 1.5 Million ratings is already a win. Free TV Networks are thirstier for higher ratings because of sponsors. That is just how the business goes. Amazon Prime and Disney Plus don't cancel originals at this moment. So that makes themslightly better than Netflix.
2.How many Americans watch the show? There are Shows with a high social media presence because they got popularity from foreign countries. American Networks don't care about the foreign audience that watches their show from the channels that syndicated them. It is all about the American audience they care about. So even if a show has a high social media presence if the watchers are not from the US, it has a chance of cancelation. Santa Clarita Diet is a globally popular Netflix show but they canceled it because it didn't draw in the US. That show has a high social media presence. The subreddit of the show has a very active community but they are not Americans. So the show got canceled. This doesn't apply though to Networks that are not serials cancelers. You can see if the show trends on Twitter in the US, I set my Twitter account to American and it gives me the idea which shows find an American audience. There are shows that I almost watched but don't trend on US Twitter. That saved me from heartbreaks because those shows did get canceled.
3. Don't watch a show until it's finished. I watched Game of Thrones, The Good Place, Orphan Black, and Fresh off the boat after they have a complete run. These shows are finished and completed so I don't need to worry about them getting canceled when I binged them on streaming platforms. They have proper endings so I will not be haunted by not having any closure. A series that is completed gives you psychological safety because no one will cancel a show that is ended.
4. Check the political belief of the actors. If the actor is way too political, there is a chance they will say something offensive have their show canceled. Roseanne is a Rating winner but its lead actress Roseanne Barr said something very offensive to some people. Her Show was canceled without hesitation. I avoid watching a new show if I know the lead actor is a cancel culture magnet.
5.Read the first impressions of the audience to the trailer. First impressions last! Even if a show is good but if its trailer is badly received, It will be canceled. The show Selfie is really good but its shallow title and bad trailer destroyed it before it has a chance. If a show is on a high budget the first impressions of people are bad, it will never make the day.
