Pop More Gardening hacks

Postby Netherrealmer » 21 Aug 2021, 05:51

I previously made articles on how to plant trees without waiting for decades to have fruit.
viewtopic.php?f=67&t=25260

I also made an article on how to regrow pineapple using the crown
viewtopic.php?f=67&t=26336&hilit=pineapple

The crown is not the only thing you can replant from the pineapple BTW, The eyes on the pineapple actually have seeds inside.

Today I will make more gardening tips that are more practical

I tried buying basil, Mint, and other herb seeds from commercial places and online and it frustrates me that they don't germinate. A lot of seeds sold in stores just won't germinate. They are either expired or the handling and shipping are not good. Rather than buying seeds that may or may not germinate.

Some seeds needed special moist environments called nurseries to grow. Many seeds needed a special environment to grow because they are sensitive.

I have a better shortcut for people who wanted to skip seed germinating.

Just go to the herb aisle of the grocery and find these fresh herbs that still have roots.

Image You can use the leaves for cooking but the stem and roots can grow back if you plant them on the soil. I had purchased 12 seed packets of mint and basil and non of them grow. I followed the tutorials and everything.

Even the herbs where roots are removed can be regrown, Just put them in a glass of water and wait for days until roots grow back.

I have more success planting grocery herbs than planting herbs from seeds.

Are you tired of birds eating the fruits from your tree or bush? I have a solution for that. Buy Mosquito nets created for sleeping and cover your plant with them.

Image

I purchased multiple mosquito nets after I had a problem with birds who keep eating my fruits. Also, there are bigger bugs too who cannot enter mosquito nets.

If you plant tomatoes, strawberries and chilis in flower pots, there are times when birds attack them. I learned a trick to keep those birds away. Place some red painted stones on the soil. Make sure the stones are as big as fruits. Birds will try to attack them with their beaks and it will hurt them that they leave your plant alone even if there are red and ripe fruits. Birds do have memories.

Do not harvest all of the fruits from your plant. Leave some of them to overripe so you can use their seeds. Seeds from a rotting over ripe fruit have a higher germination rate than the commercial seeds. Try to pluck the seeds with a tweezer from the over ripe fruit. Air dry it in a paper towel before you plant them in a nursery.

That idea for planting those pineapple eyes is brilliant. I have planted the crown and in fact it in a plastic bag doing well which I will transplant when rain subsides. \

I have also planted Amaranthus stems with roots which we had bought for consumption.

rather than buying seeds, plant the seed of a red one you used for cooking, it has a higher germination rate than those commercial seeds that requires green thumb

This is motivating. I've had so many months away from my farm because there's a hamster that eats all my farms produce and keeping them away has been hard. Any advise?

I want to plant more. This is so inspiring, I can't wait to try the hacks listed on this article.

I haven't tried planting pineapple. What I've grown in my garden are just potatoes, string beans, onions and eggplants.

I have a few pineapples and yeah, I planted the crown not the seed(it's my first time knowing pineapple actually have seeds). Do you think covering my huge papaya trees will be enough to prevent birds?, birds here are quite relentless.

I agree that spinach with roots are easier to geow compare to seeds. Mine grew fast, however the soil is not fertile. Need to use compost

I know you are a Vegan and I use rabbit for meat purposes but you can have pet rabbits for fertilizer purposes. Their poop is clean so no need for composting. You can directly use their poor to fertilize veggies.

By reorganise your terrace and your house you will find space because most of time the desorder in terrace or house let less space for such activities like mosquito nets.

I will come back to your other posts to get tips for gardening as I am passionate about gardening and love to learn more about new tricks for better gardening. For herbs, I have tried this way. I have also started keeping some from the previous harvest for seeds to be used later.
