Pop DIY sprouting

Postby Netherrealmer » 07 Jan 2021, 16:40

I love eating sprouts because they are vegetables that you can grow indoors at home. What I love about different kinds of sprouts, is that you can harvest them within a week, or even shorter than three days.

If you grow them at home, you will be eating them at their freshest state, Alive! You can eat them raw and use them for Chinese Style stir-fries.

Mung Bean Sprouts are rich in nutrition like dietary fiber, Vitamin C, antioxidants, Vitamin K, Manganese, calcium, and many more.

In an old science experiment, my elementary school teacher taught me how to sprout Mung beans.
On a plastic container that you own, place a wet paper towel or regular face towel and put rinsed Mung beans inside. Cover the beans with another layer of a moist towel. After two days, remove the cover and let the sprouts grow. No need for sunlight, As your kitchen light bulb, is enough for them. Harvest them after five days. I usually grow them on the kitchen counter.

All the sprouts I grown on the counter are also covered by a plastic dome food cover, to protect them from insects and contaminants.

If you don't like my method, You can also try this method:

All methods for growing Mung bean sprouts also work with Soybeans. Soybean sprouts are rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, folate, and antioxidants. This method of growing soybean sprouts works for Mung beans too.

-----------
I will introduce two more delicious sprouts that you can grow in the kitchen.

Sunflower Sprouts

Popcorn shoots

The next sprouts I want to introduce are the sunflower sprouts and popcorn shoots. They share the same method of growing. Sunflower sprouts remind me of Shredded lettuce when raw and cabbage when cooked. Popcorn shoots are different from most greens I ate because it has hints of sweetness.

I buy sunflower seeds from Poultry stores, They sell them as bird seeds. I don't buy sunflower seeds from groceries because those seeds are toasted.

There are sprouting-ready sunflower seeds that you can buy but they are expensive so I go for the birdseed because it is the same, sunflower seeds. They are just marketed differently.

I buy raw commercial popcorn from the grocery. Do not buy the microwavable ones because they are covered in oil.

Soaked the seeds in water inside a glass jar or drinking glass.

Cover it with any fabric overnight insects cant enter. Do not worry about the seeds being covered in water because they won't drown. Drain the water on the second-day plant the seeds on a plastic tray or glass baking dish with a thin layer of soil. Place the wet seeds on the top of the soil layer. Put another layer of soil on top of the seeds. Mist your growing tray twice a day.

Both popcorn shoots and Sunflower shoots are ready to harvest after 14 days.

Popcorn shoots go in two colors, green or yellow.

These videos are also other methods of growing them.

We have a farm but I have never eaten live bean sprout nor planted them. I would love to have them for Chinese stir fry. I may plant them this week.

I am a huge fan of noodles and I always try to incorporate different recipes other than just boil them. I a so thankful for this. I can even make a sandwich for my daughter to go to school with a snack during break time. This has been extra helpful. I won't give the recipes out, I promise.

I actually want more people to eat sprouts because it is a food that you eat alive. It is a vegetable you can harvest in few days.

Thanks so much for this article <3 I love bean sprouts and I usually buy them from this posh store. They are pricey here and last week I decided to research into making my own. But first, I'll need to find miming beans, otherwise, I could try the popcorn or sunflower seed ones. Last friday I almost bought lentils because I read somewhere you could use those. But then I observed the ones I was about to buy were split, so I decided they'd probably not work  I love them because I put them with noodles and rice to reduce the amount of starch I eat.

I tried some naturally grown strings that looked like mushrooms"that is the name I will give them for now"I Hon boy they were so tasty and I decided to go there the next day and found that they had died off after just touching them once. Not upto now have I realised they are call sprouts.I think I would love that type that grows naturally or what conditions I need to lay for them to find themselves near my backyard.

The rest you have mentioned are good but I would love to research which ones I would consider growing.Talking of the the time farm it is really amazing that young harvest them in a short time link that.

Remember vampires and mythological monster who eats babies to get younger? Sprouts are technically babies so they have some anti-aging properties. There is a study that sprouts have anti aging properties.

When I read the title, I was thinking about Mung beans sprouts. However, I did not have an English word for this. I thought Mung was a local word. I like mung sprouts, it is not only tasty but also very healthy.

I love stirfry that has Mung sprouts. They are packed with high quantity nutrition benefits and amino acids. They help to lower bad cholesterol and heart diseases.

Pregnant women can consume plenty of Mung sprouts cause they contain folate acids and a great source of protein. I find them very delicious and quite easy to include in the diet. They are also very easy and fast to prepare.

I have attempted to grow my own vegetables before, but I haven't had much luck. The only vegetables that I could get to grow properly were tomatoes and lettuce. The lettuce and tomatoes were very good, though.

I love this article! The images are fantastic but I won't be growing any sprouts. My mother had a green thumb and I did not inherit it. I can see by your instructions that sprouts are easy to grow. But if I know me I'd probably kill them. I sure do love eating them though!

Sprout is actually something people with no green thumb can try since they will just soak seeds and harvest them in few days.

Yay, this week I was able to get my hands on some mung beans! I love bean sprouts and can't wait to give your method a bash. The ones we usually get cost a small fortune, so I hope this works for me. If it does, I'll be having the sprouts with my meals more often!

If you like sprouts, you should definitely try fenugreek sprouts. This is good for weight loss, high blood pressure and diabetes.

You got my attention with this with I had read the fenugreek improves male sexual performance. I did some additional Googling and sprouted fenugreek seeds have numerous health benefits - whether you're male or female.
