Pop How to get green readability with Yoast!

Postby Netherrealmer » 26 Nov 2020, 00:43

After multiple blood, sweat, and tears, I finally master how to get green with Yoast. Yoast is a premium SEO WordPress Plugin that guides the readability and SEO potential of your article. This article will focus on the readability part.

A green rating is the desired result. You need it so more people will read your literary work. Many Authors rely too much on correct grammar. It is better to have high readability so people will stay. Perfect grammar is not everything.

I got an orange dot.
Image

This is the earlier version of the first stanza of this article you reading right now.
Image

I got an orange dot and orange means okay. I don't want to get okay. I prefer green. I got a low score on Flesch Reading Ease because some of my sentences are way too long. Go back to the top of this article and you will see how I fixed it.

So How did I fix it? To satisfy the Flesch Reading Ease I made the sentences shorter and I made a space between.

Image

Sentence Length and proper formatting and spacing fix this problem.

Now our next example got a red dot! A red dot means your article is so unreadable. For Yoast, this Porn review stanza is an insult to porn. I have to fix it.
Image

Image

So here is how I fixed the problematic stanza of this article.

Image

I shortened the sentences like how Goldilocks and baby bear likes their soup. Just right. Not too long and not too short. This satisfies both Sentence length and Flesch Reading Ease. I also wrote it in an Active voice. Many SEO hates articles written in Passive voice.

It results in another perfectly green article.

Here is another problematic part of an article that needs fixing. There is nothing wrong with the grammar but Yoast rejects it.

Image

Image

So here is how I fixed it. Aside from the Yoast problems, I notice a mistake where I switched two pieces of information. I fixed that first. I write in an Active voice, used some transitional words for smooth reading, and shortened some sentences.

The new problem here is Consecutive sentences which appear if sentences begin with the same word.

The fixed version looks like this.

Velvet bean is native to South Asia but it is also found in Africa. So it can grow in most warm climates. There is Serotonin on this legume. This chemical can control blood sugar levels, And thus makes it good for diabetic patients. It also has serotonin and that makes it good for Parkinson's patients.

Image

I hope this gives you some idea of how you will improve your articles' chances to rank in search engines. Yoast helpful to me, but do not rely too much on Yoast. You still have to promote your articles on Social media. Trying to write in an active voice is hard for me, but I am trying to adapt. So I can reach the standard. I am not a perfect writer, and I still have a long way to go, and Yoast helps me in my journey. If you can master the usage of transitional words and Active voice, Yoast can become optional.

I have to say that I did many of the things you suggest. For the most part, if you go by the Flesch Reading Ease checks, you will realize that apparently people prefer to read short sentences and short paragraphs,

"Flesch Reading Ease Formula is considered as one of the oldest and most accurate readability formulas. Rudolph Flesch, an author, writing consultant, and a supporter of the Plain English Movement, developed this formula in 1948. ..." Source

I looked it up because I wondered who this Flesch person was.

I finally managed to make a green article with 700 words. It took me 3 hours of revising to make it work. I have to abuse the thesaurus and search for synonyms so it wont sound repetitive.

Which is proof of artificial intelligence. With human intelligence, I'm sure readers would have no problem understanding what you write even if it didn't get a green dot. But because of a stupid artificial intelligence algorithm the humans who would understand you might not find your article to read it.

This is a list of transitional words and I had been using this as a Guide.

https://writingcenter.unc.edu/tips-and- ... ansitions/

I abuse using them a lot these days because Yoast demands it.

My articles are getting better traffic now thanks to Yoast but not enough to make me a millionaire. I already pass the readability levels. I always get perfect green now.

I use Yoast on my site. In my experience getting green dot requires your language and grammar skills combined with SEO skills. Even when I pass the readability score, I sometimes miss the green dot for Yoast.

I just discovered something.

The eyeballs, if you click them, they will highlight your mistakes so you can replace the sentences.

Not writing in Passive voice is really hard because that is the way I talk but I am getting use to it now.

I also didn't know who Flesch is rather. I love short and easy-to-read sentences cause they are much easier to comprehend and understand.

Flesch Reading Ease doesn't mind long Articles as long as it is written in active voice, It uses subheading distribution every paragraph and you abuse the hell out of transitional words.

I think it thus becomes readable to all sorts of audiences. I have come across the readability feature but not the Yoast.

I am also in orange. I posted article with 162 words and it requires internal and external link and those are hard to add if site is new. Especially when first posts are in question. Also it was short.
Now I understand why writers who knows all this settings and can write good SEO optimzed article charge so much this service.

I now figured out how to have green SEO on Yoast. I am crying with tears of joy right now. Green SEO with Green Readability.

It will be a future article. My article about Tall Vampire lady appears on Page 1 of google. Not top page but still..... Its page 1. I spent hours tagging and putting links in the article.

There are 35 articles on my website and 30 articles have green dot. I did not write any of these articles. There were written by a professional writer. I think you need to publish high quality article to get green dot. High uality means proper language and grammar, proper formatting, propper tags, description etc.
