Pop How Twitter changed the world for the better

Postby Netherrealmer » 31 Oct 2020, 17:10

(This article will have a sequel in 3 days that will tackle the opposite.)

Of all social media, Twitter is one of the most influential. It gets to influence the modern language on how the Youths talk. It managed to make changes to some problematic societal norms that were ignored for a long time. Some tweets make us laugh, cry, or scream in anger. Twitter has a limitation of 280 characters unless you type an essay and upload it as a picture. Today I want to discuss how Twitter positively influenced society.

1. People became more socially aware=

Especially the Youth, Twitter had made the people more vigilant against societal wrongdoings. From corruption to human rights violations. The youth had become more vigilant. When some injustice happens, Twitter is the place where people can protest without going on the streets. Certain hashtag trends had combated racism, bigotry, and other things that are wrong with society.

2. The entertainment industry become more inclusive

10 years ago, Hollywood was so racist that they cast white actors to play Asian, Black and Latino roles for the perception people of color don't draw. When Hollywood cast Scarlet Johansson to play the role of Motoko Kusanagi aka Major, A Japanese Superhero, The producers of the film made a meme template that says "I am major" they made the meme template to Market the movie but it backfired because people called them out on their racism.

This movement had caused most movies that whitewash Person of Color roles flop at the box office. Oh, there is also #Oscarsowhite when all Oscar Nominees are white despite hit movies with POCs made it to theaters. After this controversy, Hollywood had been more inclusive of casting.

3. Smaller companies manage to market their products for free. Twitter is one of the most useful social networks when it comes to marketing. You don't need to pay millions of dollars to an advertising company to market your product. All you needed is some geek who is good at making memes. Even larger companies had taken advantage of Twitter as a marketing tool. Many startups also managed to get donations for their Kickstarter crowd fundings.
4. Combating fake news- Fake news had been spread all over Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Twitter has a better fact-checking team so fake news purveyors are easier to report at Twitter.

5.Unsatisfied customers can speak out their complaints. Twitter is the first place on the internet that reported the Samsung galaxy note 7 defects. It saved many people from buying these exploding phones. Consumers can publicly complain about the bad services they are getting now thanks to Twitter. Consumers can express their experience with a certain service or product because of Twitter.

Sonic the Hedgehog's appearance got fixed on the movie thanks to fan outrage.

Twitter's role in combating injustice, Rights violation and even grave crimes is something that I have actively observed since 2014- the year I joined twitter.
And it is good that Twitter has a good mechanism for fact checking.
Also, the 280 characters limit is quite better than the previous 140, which at times restricted a good description.

Now fake news will automatically have a link that shows it is fake.

Twitter is way way better than Facebook and Instagram or any other social networking websites because of its rules and strict nature and it's best for Influencers and for raising your voice like presently farmers are doing in India.

Twitter is better network but still people from some reason like more Facebook. Maybe because it is more private. On faceebok you have your name and on twitter you can have non related username. Many sites use facebook but it block their domains when they start monetizing sites. Facebook don't want visitors go somewhere else watch ads.

Interesting article! While on Instagram your life needs to be perfect, and on LinkedIn is your boss, Twitter is still that place with few “real life” acquaintances, at least in my case. Interaction with strangers is encouraged, and based on common interests, not ads.
There is not so much pressure to impress people, or to show a life that is not yours. On the contrary, the more real or unusual a story, the greater the chance that it will spread.
In addition, Twitter is the social network that has always best hosted real-time comments on events.

and the trends can help you catch up what are the biggest news stories going on. Twitter does have flaws but I admire their fact checkers because they are very fast on debunking fake news.

A good thing about Twitter is that it asks its users whether or not they want to share a link they haven't opened. The goal is to make sure that people read what they share before they actually share it.

This statement about Instagram is so true. Everybody want show their life in perfect images. Show something real what happend, like plate full of food fall down and now dirt is on ground.

But people like more videos so they went into live stream companys. Twitter lost battle there.

Platforms like youtube have given room for creating fake news. Youtube spreads rumors faster than anything. The most important thing to consider is the source of news we consume. We should always tune to trusted sources, like big newspapers, televisions, etc.

There are questionable news providers though like Fox news which is too biased to republican party and CNN that is too biased to democrats.

Fox News has numerous controversies and accusations. Fox News has been reported by scholars, political figures, media figures of being prejudice in approbation of the Republican Party in its news coverage. Fox News has publicly opposed such charges affirming that the reporters in the newsroom provide different, neutral reporting while acknowledging their open programming isn't planned to be neutral.

I had never given much attention to Twitter until I heard that it blocked President Trump's tweet. It takes a lot of courage to block the President's tweet. I really liked Twitter's stand over this issue. However, when it comes to look into traditional media I believe there i no such thing as free media, media is either democrat or republican. same thing happens in other parts of the world.

Twitter is good because it is easy and wide reaching. Yet there is less support for person with disability, orphan and leprosy effected people.
