Pop Still Trying to Tempt You To Tumblr (A Follow-Up)

Postby cmoneyspinner » 15 Sep 2020, 14:30

I wrote this article about two years ago. 5 Tumblr Tips to Tempt You to Create a Tumblr Blog. Even though this platform has changed owners several times and I hold my breath each time, I perservered through the acquisitions and changes or modifications to the platform and my loyalty has remained steadfast. In fact, I think it's because my blogs are between 3 to 5 years old that other users are finally taking notice.

Just so you know (you might be wondering): “On May 20, 2013, it was announced that Yahoo and Tumblr had reached an agreement for Yahoo! Inc. to acquire Tumblr for $1.1 billion in cash. ... Verizon Communications acquired Yahoo in June 2017, and placed Yahoo and Tumblr under its Oath subsidiary.” (Source: Wikipedia)

The current Tumblr Management and Staff have made some very good changes that improves user interactions and supplies some easy-to-read analytics to let me know how well my blog is doing. Here are some of the changes I have noticed.

(1) KNOW YOUR FOLLOWERS:
~ I used to have to click a button to review who was a blog Follower and scroll through pages. The review process wasn't that easy. But now when I go into the dashboard, Tumblr has a feature on the top menu bar that looks like a lightning bolt. It's an all-in-one click that allows me to see: new blog followers; any Likes or Reblogs; and any comments left by visitors.

~ Can it get even better? Yes! There is yet another new feature added called “Activity” that's even better than the lightning bolt. It's a much better visual display sort of like Google Analytics and you see a graph of your blog's activity for the Last Day, Last 3 Days, Last Week, or Last Month. You can view Daily or Hourly activity. It shows your Top Post, your Biggest Fans, and you can easiily peruse all the Notes (new blog followers; Likes or Reblogs; and comments) in a scrolling stream.

(2) CHANGE YOUR COLORS:
Another new feature is that you can now Change the Palette. That may or may not be important. It's just aesthetics. Some people prefer Dark Mode. Some people like the White background. Some people like other colors. It's cool! But for me? I stayed with the Classic Tumblr blue color. I'm too used to it to make any changes.

(3) REPORT PORN POSTS:
Tumblr discontinued porn blogs but every now and then a porn post appears in my stream. There is an easy click feature that lets me block and report the posts. I report them as a favor to Tumblr. They almost lost their revenue stream over this. If the advertisers found out that were still allowing these posts they might lose money again. If they can't make money from ads and sponsored posts, they can't offer the platform free to the users. Additionally, every time I contact the Tumblr Help for assistance they have always resolved my problem. I'm not the Porn Police. But if I happen to see a post, I figure it's the least I could do to report the account that's posting it. It's not like Tumblr has not made their posting policy perfectly clear to all the users.

(4) MASS POST EDITOR:
I overlooked mentioning this in my last article. It would have been “TIP 6”. This is not a new feature but I just recently learned how easy it is to use it. Tumblr has a Mass Post Editor. If you know anything about Tumblr then you know that “tags” is the best way for people to find your blogs. A lot of times I share posts via Tumblr but don't tag them. You can come back later to your archive of posts, select 100 posts at a time, and add a tag. Super easy!

Are you tempted to Tumblr yet? :D
TAFN! That's all for now!

I didn't become a fan of Tumblr because of some of the communities it developed and there is no commenting section.

I comment every now and then. Most of the time nobody comments back. On a rare occasion a user might respond back to my comments. Sometimes people send me messages. But I don't know anything about the communities. Where are they? How do you join them? :?

I mainly like Tumblr because I can link it to my Twitter and do posts and social shares at the same time. Also many of the Tumblr templates make it easy to share to Facebook and LinkedIn. Tumblr is better than most social sharing sites because it's easy to post and repost the same content again at a later date. Putting it back into the feed/stream may present it to new viewers. I also use IFTTT and linked my Tumblr to my Piinterest so I can post and share at the same time. If you are an affiliate marketer you can share links first via Tumblr, and then via Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook and LinkedIn. There are lots of things you can do with Tumblr.

I do notice some folks like that in my post stream from time to time. You're right. They are kind of creepy.

I think the safest colors a blogger should choose are Daymode, pastel and dark mode. Neon can be an eyesore.

I had a Tumblr blog long back, where I used to submit articles related to health and wellness. But I discontinued since I couldn't monetize it. But after reading your article, I am certainly tempted to give it another go.

I know that being in the LGBTQ community is not illegal. However, INCEST IS ILLEGAL IN AMERICA and the laws are very specific. So? That's why I ask the question about them using then Darknet. I would think they wouldn't want to get caught!

Tumblr community is beyond LGBT, they have invented over 76 new genders. Many of them will be offended if you dont get to specify which one of the 76 is their identity.

I never heard of this. I also didn't know Tumblr took any side. Many social media are neutral in their position.

And, what is different between Transgender and Transgender (alternative version)?

76 genders? That's an incredible chart. It almost looks like it could be letters for a whole new alphabet and language.

Tumblr is basically the top place for virtue signalling. It also have some fandoms and community that can be a source of traffic but its just not for me.

I realize that I am sort of "out of place" on Tumblr because of my age. But I really like the platform. It's very easy to use. I love art and there are lots of great artists on Tumblr.

You have an odd but interesting community you got there. Hopefully, their creepiness won't influence you to become a creep too. :D
