Pop Present day technologies predicted by the past

Postby Netherrealmer » 06 Sep 2020, 13:08

I made an article about how old fiction failed to predict to future that is now our past. Flying cars in the year 2015, Space colony in the year 2020, and many more. People of the past have super high expectations for us.

The people from the year 1900 (cars not yet invented) thought humans will be using these Vehicles in the year 2000.
Image

Today I want to discuss science fiction things that now exist in our real life. I think some of them are not future predictions but futuristic fantasies writers used on what they think are hi-tech.

Total recall (the original) Flat screen tv

Image
This movie is made during those times when television sets are thick! TV has picture tubes! Flat-screen tv doesn't exist yet! Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone are having breakfast by the Window. Well, that is not a Window. It's Their tv, after watching the news, they turned their flat screen tv into a Wallpaper with the view of a European Mountain. So this movie predicted Desktop wallpapers unintentionally too.

Now the latest innovation on flat-screen TVs, a transparent flat screen tv!

The Jetsons
The Jetsons is a cartoon family sitcom set in the year 2062. This cartoon is from the 1960s and as you notice flying cars a is a norm on this cartoon but not in real life. Well, this old cartoon predicted some technologies we have now in the present day!

Smartwatches
Image

Well, now we have smartwatches with video calls!
Image

I think Jetsons is what inspired inventors to make Smartwatches.

One of the most popular characters in the Jetsons is Sentro the robot dog.

Image

Well, Robot dogs exist now in real life.
Image

Leroy Jetsons reads news on a screen known as a televiewer.
Image Well most of us now reads news on screens too but only smaller.

Oh, he is sitting on a floating chair. Floating chairs exist now!
Image

The Jetsons have a Robot maid named Rosey.
Image

Well There is now a Robot maid in the market that you can buy to clean your house.

Sun Vulcan

Sun Vulcan is one of the first Super Sentai shows, In the US you know Super Sentai as Power rangers. Power Rangers are repurposed Super Sentai footages.. In 1981, In an episode of Sun Vulcan, the villains invented a mobile device that will make people super dependent on it and lazy.

Yes, Smartphones!!! We can say that the Sun Vulcan team failed to stop evil because people are now dependent on smartphones. In 1981, using a device instead of a Book to make research is considered evil and lazy.

Earth
Image

This 1990 film predicted the world having a global communications system, Emails existed in the 1980s but not the internet we know today. On Earth, it predicted the internet we know now that is used for everything!

This transparent TV will bring new challenges to house designers and users. Now they have to decorate space behind TV and host must clean dust behind it.

I remember that when I was in 3rd / 4th class around 1986, many texts and even stories predicted Flying cars and space colonies as common by 2020, and perhaps earlier.

I liked reading science fiction as a kid. A lot of things that I read have turned into a reality and some of them are jetpack flying and wingsuit flying.

It all starts with imagination and dreams and ideas. And then human brain works in all capacity to make it a reality. Many things that were in sci fiction are now in reality. It would be interesting if time travel would become a reality some day.

Bicentennial Man is a movie adapted from Issac Asimov's si-fi novel where there is a story of a robot who wants to be a human. I can see this being a possibility with the evolution of humanoid robots.

I think the people of old somehow had feelings of what ingenuity of man would bring but none of them was able to see that crypto is coming.

If you have never seen the 1973 Movie "Soylent Green" you will be amazed at how much of their vision of 2022 is so real it scares you.
You can rent it on YouTube for $2.99 or try to find it free, but it's a must see on my list, so I bought a copy.

Interesting, I haven't seen the movie. In what ways has their vision for 2022 come true?

They were really smart to have foreseen all these inventions. And they were realistic enough not to try and pursue it at the time.
