What is cool and what is not differs with culture. If you are the smartest kid in school you will be the most popular kid if you are in Asia or Africa but in the US, you will be a nerd. What is cool and uncool differs in culture but is there a way to bully proof your kid? I tried to make a research using the lives of people who never got bullied at school and people who got bullied at school and I realize a common denominator between the kids who got bullied and the kids who didn't get bullied.
Give them a Bully proof name.
Bully proofing your child starts at the day they were born. Make sure their names can assimilate with their classmates. Give them a name that won't embarrass them. I had seen so many parents naming their sons Ashley and Kelly. Those names are unisex but they are more associated with girls. Many boys with feminine names easily got bullied at school. Oh I also saw a recent trends of parents using super weird names. Also sometimes normal names can sound like a joke if its combined to their last names.
Imagine all the bullying these people experienced in their lives:

Make your child embrace who they are and they will have good self confidence.
I remember many dark skinned African American actors said they got bullied at school as a child by white kids because they are black and they got bullied by light skinned black kids because their skin is too dark. But it is not the case of the actress Tika Sumpter. I decided to use her as an example because her skin color was never an issue with her growing up. She is a very smart student but she was not counted as a nerd, in fact she became a student council president and a cheerleader. Being Smart never made her uncool at school and being Dark Skinned never made her feel insecure. When she was a kid a light skinned black woman is like a standard of beauty for African Americans during her childhood but she was not affected by pop culture.

She said that her parents raised her to embrace everything about her self and pursue her dreams, If you have self acceptance, you will have high self esteem and people with high self esteem are not targeted by bullies. Due to her high self esteem she was not bullied for her race, academic performance, etc. You can see with the way she was raised, peer pressure and pop culture beauty standards didn't affect her. Her parents made her believe she is beautiful and that resonates to her self esteem.
Do not baby talk your child in public especially if they are on their tweens or teens.

Teenagers needed their personal space, There are times they dont want to be with their parents and it happens because many parents can't accept that their baby is not a baby anymore.I know there are moms out there who still kiss their son in front of many people in the public. Mama's boys are one of the biggest bully targets. There is a place and time for everything and you cannot baby your kid in public especially if they are being image conscious.
Give them the freedom to buy their own clothes and have fashion statements but still restrict them if they get over the top.
You can give them some restrictions on what they cannot wear but give them the freedom to choose clothes they are comfortable with. Most teens wanted to assimilate because if they stand out way too much they come an easy target for bullying. You can give them rules on what they cannot wear but give them freedom to choose because most of the time kids are embarrassed on the clothes what their parents choose. I use to have a classmate who got bullied because his mom loves buying clothes with heart polka dot designs.
Make them learn a sport they can be good at
Athletic kids gets targeted last by bullies. So raise your kid to be physically fit so no one will mess with them. There is a reason why Jocks and cheerleaders are the most popular kids in school in America. You never see bullies target them. I remember as a kid there is a chubby boy at school who is not bullies because he is good at basketball. No one bullies someone athletic no matter what their body type is.
Tell your kid to be not afraid to ask for help
Many kids got bullied a lot because they are afraid to ask for help because they thought asking for help is weakness. Nope snitching those bullies and reporting them will make them target someone else instead.
