I have long disabled the ones on mine, but only because I didn't like the idea of them deciding what needs to be doing what and when it should be doing that. Lol. Thanks for the info on Avira and AVG. I didn't know this about them.

Yeah auto starting softwares can be a pain to deal with. It's better to activate them only when they are needed. I disabled them in start up but I didn't uninstall them because I do use them.

Some good tips. I have seen that regular cleaning of computers, optimum space usage and keeping number of programs in check is something that really helps in good performance of computers.

Change to Linux and all your problems will be solved, even old pcs with some distros run smoothly, besides Linux is free and if you are not a heavy player than the OS has everything you need to work online, watch movies, work, etc.
I think it is time for people to stop spending money with new machines and open their minds to opensource, stop feeding Microsoft

If you have some money to spare - and if it's worth to improve your pc depending on how old it is - add more memory to it. I have an ASUS laptop with 4GB. I know that the Internet will continue to get 'heavier' with all sorts of apps and images, sounds, videos, and whatnot. So, I added another 4GB RAM card to ensure a smooth working experience and add longevity to my laptop. I did a research on my own on what sort of RAM type that I needed and learned to install it myself by watching Youtube videos and read any related PC articles. It would've cost me $15-$20 if I just send it to a PC shop and ask them to do it for me.

I'm grateful for this post because I now have insight to take care of my next laptop. The other extra thing I used to do was to disable the auto update option in the windows store. This really helped because there were apps I never used on the windows 10 and it didn't matter if they were updated or not, I just wanted to save on space.
The other thing I used to do when my laptop hanged was taking out the battery because it couldn't shut down. It always worked for me because it would work fine the next time I used it.
The other thing is to avoid just connecting any USB, flash drives or disks unless you have an updated antivirus that can automatically scan anything you introduce to the computer or any file you downloaded.

I am sure buying a new computer will always be the better solution but yeah there will be times where people are just too broke so they need to adjust for what is available. I also clean those temp files too.
