Pop Technologies that might extend our lifespan part 1

Postby Netherrealmer » 14 Aug 2018, 14:46

The average life expectancy during the ancient egypt is 30 years old. As centuries and decades gone by, People's life expectancy increases because of new found technologies and diets people learn through the years. During the 1990's the life expectancy of humans grew to 65.3 years. Around the 2010's it increased to 75 years in average. Centenarians are also becoming a norm instead of a rarity. I am sure some of you may worry that longer lifespans may lead to overpopulation but that assumption is wrong. The birth rates in Japan and Sweden have been dropping because the long lifespans of people makes them less motivated to have babies.

So what technologies are currently in development that can lead to us living longer than expected. Are they within our lifetime?

Organ Cloning:
Image
Having our organs replaced by a donor organ in place of our damage organs can extend our lifespan. The replacement should be from a person who shares a blood type with us. The only problem with organ transplants is our body will eventually reject it because the organ didn't came from us. Organ cloning is a breakthrough currently under development. Arteries, esophagus, nose, ears, finger and liver can now be cloned. Once the more vital organs like heart, kidney and lungs can be cloned expect additional decades to the average human lifespan.

Organ printing:

Image
Organ printing is basically a more advanced organ cloning. Organ printers already exists but it cannot make more complicated organs like heart yet. Just like regular organ cloning, the body won't reject the cloned organs because the cells used belong to you. It may extend human lifespan beyond the norm as people can simple replace their organs every few decades.

Stemcell research
Image
Stem Cell research is already applied to cure cancer and other diseases. Some patients are cured but this research is still ongoing. Aside from curing diseases and injuries, stem cell research have a lot of potential to fight aging. Someday a 90 year old might have the looks and vitality of a 30 year old.

Nanotechnology:

Another technology being develop to make our lives as long as a turtle. Microscopic robots are currently used for animal trials. These robots will kill viruses and cancer cells before they can damage our health. These nanobots might be released for public use soon.

Cybernetics:
Image
Cyborgs already exists now, People who have prosthetic limbs are technically cyborgs. People who have tooth fillers and tooth implants are also technically cyborgs. Soon more humans with mechanical and electronic enhancements will be come a norm to the people who can afford it.

Life extending supplement

Someday a certain pill or medicine can be available on drug stores that has the ability to extend human life. This supplement is going to be most likely expensive but it is worth it for people who wanted to live longer.

Mind upload

Image
Scientist are now trying to develop a technology where a dead person's consciousness will be uploaded on a computer where they can live virtually. Imagine living in a world designed according to your liking. Biggest risk of this technology is hackers can turn your virtual paradise into nightmare.

Honestly! You find the most interesting things to share.

I'm happy for technological progress and these wonderful inventions.

But to say that they will extend a person's life? I don't buy it.

First of all, you don't know long the person was going to live. So how do you know if you've extended their life?

Second, remember the story of Tithonus in Greek mythology. (Just Google it!)

Point me to the pill or machine that will stop the aging process. :D

These technologies are also working on human's healthspan. I mean what is the sense of a 150 year old lifespan if you are a vegetable. Nanotechnology also centers on improving healthspan.

I often wonder if I could stop the aging process, which age would I pick to stop at. I rather liked when I was 16. But I'm not a grown up yet. I also liked when I turned 22. I was married by then. My 30s were a good age. I was not too old and not too young and I felt like I was settling into life and getting used to being me! :D

What age would you pick?

I am still quiet young but I like the idea of being 70 year old and still having my current stamina. We already have 50 year olds who look like they are on their 20's but around 60's that is when age starting to show that no diet, exercise or surgery can fix. I wont mind looking old and ugly but I want to keep my athleticism and strength.

Imagine being 200 years old with great grand kids wanting you to die because they want inheritance.... Most of us don't care about our 3rd cousins... I have a feeling if lifespan is longer, people won't care about great great great grandchildren.

I have heard about some of these things. One thing that surprises me about human beings is the desire to extend life. Most of these technologies are geared towards extending life.

Well many people actually enjoy their lives that is why they don't want to die and lose all those things they worked for while others want to stay longer with their family.

Anyone interested in this topic will enjoy"To Be a Machine: Adventures Among Cyborgs, Utopians, Hackers, and the Futurists Solving the Modest Problem of Death" by Mark O'Connell. It's an excellent read and explores the topic of extending life via technology from lots of different angles. It really is an excellent book and I'm planning on giving it a second read in the near future.

Well after 100 years, I think even babies will have an implanted chip in them and might be controlled by machines!

I always wonder what's 3D printing, we don't even need the clon technology if everything, like organs can be printed.

But, I won't take the meat by 3D printing technology, I suppose.

Artificial limbs and other artificial body parts can and are replacing human body parts. But man will never be a machine wholly and completely. There is a part of man that is invisible. The soul or the spirt. You can not operate on your inner being or replace it. The spirit or soul can exists without the body. But the body without the spirit is dead. So! When you talk about man become a machine you seem to be saying that a machine can become a human. AND THAT CAN'T HAPPEN!!

mechanical hearts already exists but they are not yet perfected.

He have to carry a backpack though because the artificial heart is a bulky accessory.

But, he is super fit!

I wish they can develop a mechanical heart that is small. Lucky for him his mechanical heart is portable. The older versions are bulky machines that the patient cannot leave their room.

This is great. We can see how tech changes in two years.

Question: Is pacemaker considered nanotech or just implant into human body? Can we say people who have it alredy cyborgs in some way?

In the USA, people have been using pacemakers for a very long time. It never occurred to me what kind of technology it was. Here is an article that might interest you.

They are cyborg on some ways but not yet nanotech since nanoteach is a swarm of bacteria sized robots that can reproduce using the metals in your blood.
