Though Internet made many technologies obsolete, Many parts of the internet have gone and said goodbye. Many technologies the internet have has been replaced. Today I am going to be give tribute to the social networks of the past that are now nothing but memories for the people who get to use them. There is a chance though they are parts of the memory that has been replaced as they had been forgotten forever.
Six Degrees
Six Degrees is the very first social network in existence. The company already shuts down in the year 2000 but you can still access the site. The old members can still log in but they don't accept new members. They decided not to close down the site because some old members still communicate with this forgotten website. I heard there are some people who can still register but you must have an invite from an old member. It is sad to see the one who started it all became a forgotten relic most people don't remember.
Vidme
Vidme started with great intentions. It wanted to compete against Youtube during the start of the apocalypse controversy. It is actually easier to monetize Vidme videos. It has all the potential in the world but it ends up failing because all members wanted to monetize their videos. Also Youtube had grown into a huge giant that is hard to compete with because it is part of Google.
Surfbook This social Network only lasted for three years but it is the one that invented the like button. All social networks awe their Like button thanks to this doomed site. The creator of Surfbook actually sued Facebook but they lost the lawsuit.
Friendster I remember back in the mid 2000's. Every single person I know have a Friendster account. It is the first social network that made photo albums obsolete. What I love about Friendster is you can customize the skin of your account. Facebook don't really have that option.
At its peak most people upload their pictures on Friendster instead of developing it. I think the reason why Facebook is able to beat friendster is the games. Facebook is the first social network that included games on their system. Also Friendster have lots of plans on their site but Facebook already beats them to it before they had a chance to their ambitious projects. At certain point Friendster is richer than Facebook but they didn't buy Facebook when they had a chance. Instagram is a threat to Facebook but Facebook decided to buy Instagram before it got bigger.
Multiply
The failure of Multiply is a huge mystery for me because it is a very influential social network. Some of the features we enjoyed at LinkedIN, Pinterest,Reddit, Yelp and event Etsy are available in Multiply. Many Multiply users use it more as a free website. Some people are able to make online stores with Multiply. So it's such a useful Social Network that is a Jack of all Trades but it became a relic of the past as well.
Bubblews
This is a Social Network that pays money to its members. It has a lot of potential and I actually made money with this site . They started with great intentions and it even got a Hype of it's CEO being interviewed on American Television. But it end up becoming a scam because of many circumstances. The first one is the members who abused it's system by plagiarizing and the extreme plagiarism leads to Google Adsense removing their sponsorship that demonetization made the owner unable to pay its members. The site became a scam and it ends up shutting down.

I had a Facebook account before I opened Friendster. It was not too long and the site has gone. I also earn some amount with Bubblews but I was not very active on the site because, during that time, I was active with my other sites.
Every day new sites would come out and play their best game. Though those who made the best and timely strategies would survive. People's preference keeps on changing every day. What might be applicable today might not be the same thing tomorrow. If you want to survive in this business, you should think in advance and can keep with the new trend.

bestwriter wrote:Great research as usual. The only site that I miss from that list is Bubblews. I earned pretty good there.
I made hundreds of dollars there before they got demonetized by Google. So thats why I can relate to many demonetized Youtubers and I am campaigning against Susan.

I have a vague recollection of a site called Friendster. I don't know any of the others except Bubblews. As for Bubblews? I'll let the angry people that Bubblews screwed over say whether or not it was even a "social" network.
You could have also mentioned the Tsū social network. They came and went in a hurry. They recently promised to come back. But I haven't seen them.

Wow, I honestly don't even know where you get all this information but thanks for sharing. Out of all those, the only one I know of is Bubblews, which I caught right at the tail end of its lifespan and never did earn from it, sadly.

I wasn't aware that Google+ is no more. I tried to share my blog articles on there but never felt it paid off.

Yes. It was a sad day when I got that eMail from Google telling me that if I wanted to I could export my G+ content in a file. It was time to say Good bye. But it was fun while it lasted.

Oh, friendster, those good old days. It's sad that they couldn't compete with Facebook. Businesses should keep innovating so they would still be relevant and not become part of history.

What I liked about Friendster was that you could link it to your other social media accounts like Twitter and easily re-post to them too. You used to be able to post easily from Facebook to Twitter but Facebook discontinued the interface.

I don't remember Orkut. I only learned about it when I was doing research on social networks. I do remember Google+ and was very disappointed when they decided to discontinue it.

I remember when Google purchased Youtube, I was forced to use Google Plus and they also reveal my real name on my channel. That alone made people annoyed to Google Plus
