And it can be really hard to get hold of those type of the carts. And however they can be easy to use they are going to cost you a lot. And in that context, here are some of my suggestions on why shopify may not be right fit for you. This is an alternative view about the shopify which I usually recommend. But let's take a look at scenarios where shopify may not be the right option for you.
Cost
Shopify's minimum plan starts from 29$ a month. That's an investment of 360$ USD per year. And the best part you need credit card for recurring subscription which may not be the case one has if they are not good in terms of finance. The cost also increases if you are going to dropshipping. And in that context I'd say shopify may take time for you to make the most of the money. That's what I have learned.
Platform Dependency
Nothing you do on shopify can be ported to other platforms. As other platforms have their own way of doing things. Say most of the WordPress plugins are portable to other plugins and the database. So in such case platform dependency is something people don't like. If you can afford the platform dependency then it's good enough. But the thing is that you have to find your own infrastructure once you cross 10k per day of sales.
Chargeback
E-commerce industry is plagued with people who backout from purchases. It could be genuine in some case. And in another case it could be fraud. And that's where the people who own such business end up paying the most price. And we have to see that people are not being wasted on the chargeback end. I think people really have to think about chargebacks of different types. And then get themselves out of the business issues.
Mindset of Customers
Most of the traffic that comes to the online store these days expect Amazon like Prime service. And you'd be limited to work on the discount and the options. So this may not always work for you. And you have more success from Amazon FBA over shopify store. And that's something many people won't tell you about. So better to find out multiple venues to sell your product. That way your sales are secured.
As you can see shopify is a good option to start a store. But nothing out there is full of pros and none cons. So we have to find out how such stores are applicable to our own case. And based on that decide what may or may not work.
