HTTPS Why Your Blog Should Get Free SSL

Postby skysnap » 26 Jul 2017, 12:03

These HTTPS is being forced by the browsers. And more and more blogs are moving towards the SSL certificates. In such case you'd find that it's fair to get the SSL certificate to be future compliant. In future you'd find that almost every browser would be asking for HTTPS and that may be forcefully. In this article, I am going to show you why your blog needs to migrate to the HTTPS in near future.

What is Free SSL?

There are some companies who make money off encryption level on the certificates. And they keep the SSL paid for the same reason. However 128 bit SSL is being offered for free. And many companies are coming with the free service. You can find that Let's encrypt is one such product that offers the free SSL service. And you'd be able to get the product for free of cost from the hosting service if they support it for same reason.

How to install Let's encrypt Free SSL?

You can follow the tutorial Let's encrypt SSL cpanel. This tutorial can explain you how to make use of the options for registering the Let's encrypt with your domain. And that can be one good option especially if your blog or site needs security for the financial transactions. In such case you'd be able to benefit from the certificate and you can find that the video linked can show you the process completely.

Where to check for the SSL certificate validation?

There are plenty of websites that can check the validity of the SSL certificate. You can see that some of the sites are checking this for more better stronger security checks. If you are using the Let's encrypt then that can be surely a good options. I have found that HTTPS validation is not that easy but you can do it with those sites. I suggest checking out sites like these shown below.

1. ssllabs.com/ssltest/
2. sslchecker.com/sslchecker

These two are more than enough for checking the SSL validation. As you can see those certs are good enough on many counts. I have found that you can also do this from your host panels as well.

What's the alternative to the Let's encrypt?

There are very few as of now. SSLForFree seems to be one good option for you in such case. You can see that it's one good platform for getting the SSL. They charge no money. So they are same like the Let's encrypt. And there are many bloggers who are using it. Though I have personally not used it on any of my domain. So that's one reason I can't say much about it but you have that option.

As you can see sooner or later we all have to take our website to the SSL. And that's one reason you need to find out ways to do this on your host site. You can make use of the above resources to switch your site or the blog to SSL soon. Do let me know how the switch worked out for you.

Having SSL installed on our websites is one way to secure it and make it a real site. I always make sure that all my sites have an active SSL certificate whether free or paid. I usually use either "WP Free SSL – Free SSL Certificate for WordPress and force HTTPS" or "WordPress Free SSL Certificate Plugin, HTTPS Redirect, Renewal Reminder – Auto-Install Free SSL" WordPress plugins as they give me option to get and install without visiting any site.
