Personal Finance - Building Financial Portfolio

Postby skysnap » 26 Mar 2017, 07:54

We all want smooth and stale financial life. But in reality, not all of us have things easy way for us. Building financial portfolio is not an easy task. But it can be definitely something that is achievable. You can build a portfolio that can help you get a good standing on the personal finance. In this article, I am going to cover some of the basic things that can be helpful for you to setup the financial portfolio.

Make a List of Assets

First thing that we all should do is making a list of assets. For example, car, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, cash, bank accounts. You have to make sure that you are listing everything that is either having some value to you or have market value. Things like house and real estate property is also an asset. So that should be included too. And make sure to include anything that you have that can be sold for some specific value in future. Those assets definitely help you establish some initial foundation.

Retirement Account

The first thing that you should be putting your money into is the retirement account. And that's the place where each year you should add as much money as you can. Because this is the account that is going to help you in later years of your life. Make sure to set some money aside each month. And at the end of the year, you have some good money in retirement account. That practice should be continued as long as you are focused on life. This way you can make some serious money during your old age.

Own Home

By owning a home, you can rest assure that you're doing much better in terms of long term money holding. By owning a home, you are not spending the money in rent. This means you are going to be spending the money towards the home that you own. And this in turn solves a lot of issues. Most of the people who stay on rent for long end up in debt. So that is something you have to consider while building a portfolio. And as home itself becomes an asset. So you should consider that as an option.

Emergency Funds

If you are struggling to have a portfolio, then minimum that you can have is an emergency fund. This way you can have enough money in your wallet. And you can decide how much you can consider adding everyday expenses, mortgage payments, healthcare and food and other stuff. This should be calculated properly. And you have to manage small things so that you dont end up starving. That's something you should consider for emergency funds.

These are some of the things that you may need to watch out for while building a portfolio. So you should take things in that direction. You can take help of a professional if you are in need of serious small level detail work.

You have missed out a pension fund where a professional financial manager manages the account. This money will be invested in shares depending on your age and risk level.

It's my backup plan should my other options fail to deliver.

Sure, I think this is the most important, there should be a retirement plan already in place long time before retiring from active service. This will be the backbone in case of any financial crisis.
