Acne is a common skin condition. In some cases, the creams used to treat it can only further damage the skin. Here are a few tips that may help you heal your acne:
1. Do not rub or scrub:
Do not rub your acne away. In fact, frequent or rough washing can lead to irritated acne and dry skin. Your skin will react better to gentle handling. Simply wash your face twice a day with some mild cleanser and then wipe your face dry with a towel. If you exercise and sweat more, you may have to wash your face after exercise too.
2. Do not crack pimples:
Do not squeeze or pop pimples. It could only lead to infection and inflammation. It may also push the infected area deep into the skin. This may create more swelling. Popping or squeezing pimples could lead to lasting scars on the face.
3. Breathe well:
It is good to breathe well when you are stressed. Doctors say that there is a direct link between the stress and the acne. Studies have indicated that there is increased production of androgen when a person is reeling under stress. Besides mental stress, physical stress such as surgery, allergies, etc could also set off the androgen production. Once androgen is activated, the sebaceous glands pump out more oil and it leads to acne.
4. Apply honey:
Once a week, apply a mask of honey. It is considered as a disinfectant. It has medicinal properties and believed to heal small blemishes. Honey has the properties of destroying the bacteria in the skin.
5. Use sunscreen Ointment:
A lot of acne medications contain things that can make your skin extra sensitive to sunlight as well as ultraviolet rays. Read the warnings on labels and avoid tanning booths. Always use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15. Exposure to sun can actually aggravate acne even if you are not using any acne medication. So do not make sun bathing a part of your life and always use sunscreen creams.
6. Excess is not good:
If you make use of more acne medication than advised by your doctor, it may actually worsen your acne. A lot of over-the-counter acne medications contain active ingredients such as salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Too much of any of these can cause your skin to become excessively irritated or dry. It may take time for your skin to adjust to new medications. Keep in mind that it may take up to six weeks for any acne medication to have a visible effect. Use the medicines as advised by your doctor. If you do not see any improvement within a month or two consult your dermatologist.
7. Pay good attention to your skin:
Use a mild cleanser twice a day and slowly wash and dry your skin. Apply a good sunscreen cream.
8. Endurance is a virtue:
Healing takes some time. So be patient. Regrettably, this doesn't take place overnight. Results are generally visible in a few weeks. But, it may also take up to six weeks or more. Do not be carried away by overnight promises. Allow your acne treatment a good chance.
