I'm sort of like that with Netflix. I check to see how many seasons before I get involved. I lucked out and managed to binge watch Midsommer Murders and Murdoch Mysteries. I love murder mysteries; especially BBC. Murdoch Mysteries was the first Canadian mystery series I ever watched.

CBS

Postby Netherrealmer » 23 Jan 2022, 00:00

CBS just debuted a show titled Ghosts and It is good, Lucky for me CBS is not known for cancelling shows. It seemed like their strategy of casting 50% POC in all of their shows has been a great strategy because POC people gives ratings. Ghosts was confirmed to be a ratings success. CBS is the only American free tv network I trust.

Fox and ABC, I won't bother they are cancel trigger happy together with Netflix

I felt that many times because many of my favorite shows were stopped due to one reason or the other but I'm pretty good with finding other alternatives and there's always Youtube and sports to keep me busy and occupied.

Sometimes when the show gets too stretched, the audience will get bored. That's what happened to Lucifer 6th season. At least for me.

The last American TV show that was cancelled that truly broke my heart was "Sleepy Hollow" with Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie. The fact that they took a classic in American literature and adapted it to modern day was genius!! That first meeting between Ichabod Crane and Abbie Mills, when he asked her if she had been emancipated ... I knew I was going to love the show, But when killed off Abbie, I was no longer interested. There was no way they could save that series WITHOUT Ichabod and Abbie. They had such great chemistry.

Canceling shows finally backfired to Netflix, they lost 25 percent of their subscribers and they thought the solution is charging on password sharing. They are so out of touch. All they need to do is renew some of the shows they cancel and slow down on canceling shows.

That is out of touch. Canceling the shows is what really annoyed me the most!

I think what they need to do from now on is to make the new shows limited series where the finale ends with a conclusion and not cliffhanger. If its successful make a sequel, If its not, at least it has a closure of an ending.

For me there is no lasting solutions for this. Episode must have endings, series no matter long the series can be it must at some point end.

I never thought a hit show like Westworld gets canceled. I will only watch an American show now if its a limited series or if a series finale is announced. I do not want to get attached to a show with no ending again. HBO Max,Peacock and Amazon starts canceling shows now. No one is safe anymore. I wish I won powerball,I could have rescued Westworld.

Westworld was going downhill and losing a lot of viewers so it made sense in a way. I only watched the last 2 seasons for the sake of completion. But I was expecting them to do another season or two since I heard it was originally planned for 6 seasons. Not complaining though, it had its run and I was ready for it to be over.

The economy is bad now so all networks are cancelling shows that are underperforming. Now more than ever, it's about profits. Even CW sold its network and most of its shows are being cancelled. Only a handful of their shows will be renewed (and probably only for 1 more season).

European shows and Korean shows on Netflix seem to have a higher renewal rate. I guess because their budget is cheaper. I prioritize them now over American shows that always get canceled.

You're right. Foreign shows are less expensive to produce/buy. However, only a few of them become extremely popular. Netflix still makes the most from their American shows.

I dont care about Netflix's income, I care more for a show's survival. and having a series finale. I will only watch an American show now if its a limited series. I will only commit to an American show now it its guaranteed that it wont get canceled. I feel more confidence with european and korean shows. They always end with a finale but still gets renewed. I think the only foreign show Netflix had canceled is Samantha Samantha because the producers asked for more money.

Stranger things is confirmed to have a finale, so I am confident with that at least.

You don't have to care about Netflix's profits, but it will affect your shows. Even European and Korean shows -- no matter how cheap they are to produce, Netflix won't waste money on them if no one is watching them. There is never any guarantee for any show and Netflix (or any network) can pull the plug when they feel like the profits aren't good enough. It's not that foreign shows don't get cancelled; it's just that they're smaller shows with a smaller audience so no one reports them or reacts to them being cancelled.

Your best bet would be to stick with limited series with only 1 season. Fortunately for you, Netflix is producing a lot of those these days so you have plenty to choose from.

After 9 seasons it has now finished for good but at least it finished on top as many of us are begging the producers to bring it back. I will definitely be in withdrawal for a while until I find a replacement.

Producers of films have target for revenues so when the film has enough revenue for him he stops production for new seasons as he reachs his target goal from previous seasons.

On going shows though are safe if the show becomes too popular like Stranger Things and Wednesday

More like don't like American shows that they don't like to avoid heartbreak after cancellation because a show with a high social media presence if the watchers are not from the US, it has a high chance of cancelation.
