Why are referrals not used here? It's a great way for this kind of site to grow without the administration having to do anything. All you need to is add a referral modification and set it so users earn Forum Coin for every referral they get. This will increase the Forum Coin memberbase and provide alternative way for users to earn Forum Coin.

Thanks for the suggestion. The main reason why we don't have a referral system of some kind is because of the lack of a fully developed referral system available for phpBB. The one referral mod (to my knowledge) that isn't officially marked as abandoned does not offer integration with the points mod which offers additional inconvenience for us to have to add that ourselves as well as the general issues faced with using an in development mod.

https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=1224005 - This one works with Ultimate Points and Reputation System.

And if there isn't a working one that is compatible with the points system, to avoid problems with administrators having to add the referral points themselves users should go to a topic to claim it but only when they reach certain referral milestones. 5,10,25,50,100. This makes life a bit easier but you still get the easy advertising a referral system gives you. :)

That mod seems to be only based around sending emails with a unique link or by specifying a referrer manually on registration. It doesn't seem as though it provides users with a link that they can add to signatures or promote via traffic exchanges... unless I am missing something.

It shouldn't be too hard to automate the process of adding the Forum Coin when a referral hits x number of posts anyway no matter what mod we use. It is sharing some in common with something I have been working on a few days ago which taps into post counts and the Ultimate points system.

So there's a possibility of a referral system been in place in the near future?

As long as Fergal says Yes then it should be implemented soon. I have one installed and working on a test forum although just need to test it properly. I have it seemingly working well with a set amount of forum coin going to the referrer after a set number of posts by the referral. I will need to do more testing of the mod itself and my alterations but hopefully it will be fine and Fergal will approve the idea.

Great. :) Look forward to (hopefully) seeing it implanted. :)

I think you would have to give the person who signed up via the referal link a little forum coin, or they wont use the link.

Usually users won't have a choice of a referral link and a non referral link. In most cases, users promoting their referral link will promote only that link and I doubt users who want to click it will copy the url and remove the referral ID from the url.

I don't think a referral system is really needed if everyone is happy to help the forum community grow.

The problem is that only a small amount of users would promote a forum for nothing in return. Offering an incentive will encourage more users to promote the site.

But Fowler, the reward is being a part of this great community, with the generous rewards that it offers.

That is the incentive to sign up but not an incentive to refer other users which is the idea behind this suggestion.

Referrals get to be a part of the forum and gets to take advantage of what we offer
Referrers get a small amount of Forum Coin for spending their time promoting us

This way everyone is happy :D

Dennis is right. The forum has a lot to offer; Domains, Hosting, Money through PayPal and exchanges.

Fowler: The Referrals can be given FC as incentive but making sure at the same time that it doesn't cause spam.

All new users already get a small amount of Forum Coin for joining as an incentive. What we offer in terms of hosting, PayPal and other things only encourage user to sign up and not to promote this site.
