Please read discussions and threads before commenting

Postby Netherrealmer » 18 Oct 2020, 13:49

I am starting to notice a trend of people here who will not bother reading topics. They just read titles and make comments so their comment looks out of place like they don't know what they are saying. The title is not enough information.. Sometimes titles had nothing to do to the actual thread.

I don't really want to give Dislike bombs but I will be forced to because it's my responsibility. People who comment bomb multiple discussions without reading, it is so easy to read right through you. I can easily know that you just comment for the sake of commenting because your comment doesn't fit the narrative of the discussion.

I want newbies to succeed but newbies keep self sabotaging themselves to get banned. Your comment dont need to be an essay. Just read so you know what you are saying.

This one is optional but Read replies before you do so you know you can post something that is not a repeat. C'mon people.

I use to be a Newbie too and made some mistakes but I learn from those mistakes.

It will make a difference if you read before you comment.

Yes it is the way to be active here. First read the topic. If it interests one, then comment and discuss. Otherwise, one can skip a topic and move on to something else.
Meaningless and irrelevant comments never help- be it on Forumcoin or elsewhere.
I hope that people read this post and follow what you are trying to say.

I will eventually move this to ForumCoin Related Discussions but I want it to be seen by most people first before I move it. I don't really want to downvote people but this trend forces me to do so.

This is something that drives me insane. I also notice that people do not read posts where questions have been answered. I understand if a topic is many pages long but sometimes a question will be answered and then someone will ask the same thing again a few posts underneath.

It is good that you did not give dislike at once, sometimes people post in hurry but that can be tolerated if their post remains meaningful with others to discuss. For others, it is better to issue warning first. You did right by creating this thread.

I actually already downvoted people because its my job but it pains me to do so. I give them warning first but they don't listen.

I need to ask a question exactly based to my quote: what to do if a thread has, for ex. 84 pages? Supposing nobody goes to read 84 pages before answering, what does happen if an answer is, for ex., at page 5 or 6? Users at page 84 don't know exactly where answer is, they don't go to read the first 83 pages. I understand if the answer is really in the page 84 and users don't read that last page, answering the same, that is no useful for the forum.
My doubt is, in any way, if we need to read all pages long or not, depending on the specific topic. Sorry if I'm mistaking.

@Pousinha You already have a good start compared to those newbies who had been bane of my existence the last few weeks. More Newbies should be like you. As long as you will try to not be repetitive and you read what the topic is about, your comment won't look out of place. Also I kinda encourage replying on new threads instead of those old threads with hundreds of replies.

I think after some time we should just close topic, especially if site don't have any changes. Maybe just allow payment proofs.

Good advice. I see lots of people who don't bother to read the first post or the replies before posting. It's annoying. I know not everyone wants to read, but at least skim before replying so you know what you're saying. And sometimes people will post a question and after I reply to it, they never read it. Then a page or two later, they will ask the same question again. It's quite upsetting when I take the time to reply and answer a question, only to be ignored.

I always try my best to read all the stuff before commenting but surely I am not perfect sometimes. If the post is quite long like an essay I rarely post on the thread unless I have some knowledge about the topic... Anyway, gòod advice, my friend in order for the siye to stay healthy...

With your current role as a moderator, it will be very challenging on how to deal with some newbies who are not following simple rules without sacrificing the good relationship that we have here. this is a good step - reiterating some guides that would be visible for newbies so they will be reminded before posting a reply.

I think your suggestion is good. I think there should be a button where the author and the moderator can close a particular thread, especially old ones so newbies won't reply with a repetitive answer.

People don't bother checking the date of the threads they bump and they don't care if the topic is about a site that doesn't pay anymore.

When I was new here, I used to do too, it was just to share some old information or something, newbies may do that. I would not like to blame them for this, it is better to lock the old topic, otherwise how can people be stopped to comment in them?

The old thread that are timeless. I will keep them unlocked but I am locking dated threads that gets bumped so people will get the message.
