Gift or Donation

Postby anil02 » 24 Jun 2019, 11:22

Yesterday on posting 2000 post I got 5 forum coin. Here I notice that most of time when we give some FC to members we used donation word. I think donation word is grace, pity. It is better that we use gift word for it. :D

Congratulations, not a small number of posts!
Yes, and I've been thinking about it, every "donation" you actually do, is never donated just so, that it makes sense to me. I wonder if somebody will 'donate' a few FC's just so

[Moving topic to appropriate forum section!]
I think is a valid and interesting suggestion. I think in this selection (related with Forum Coin) your topic would be more visible. :)

I don't think the word used when passing coins on from one member to another makes much difference. The reason the word "donate" is used here is because that is the terminology established by the site.

Look at any member profile page. You will see an entry that displays the current ForumCoin Holdings, followed by the link to transfer funds:

ForumCoin: xxx ForumCoin
[Donate]

The meaning of that particular word here is just to indicate that someone has transferred coins from one account to another. It is the same link for all such transactions, whether a gift, a trade, a purchase or whatever.

Don't read so much into it. Words in English can include many vague meanings.

I would think you would just be pleased to receive something that is actually unearned from another member. That transaction is not a site policy, it was a personal gift, donated from one member to encourage another.

I think it's a technical thing. Gifts probably attract income tax and donations do not so almost all sites use 'Donation' to avoid complexity.

Amount of FC is never so big that attract income-tax. You know we India don't like to take donation. We can use word Honorarium for it.

Thank you for bringing this to the attention of the site. This issue has not been previously discussed.

Due to your explanation and to avoid any further issue, the "donate" link name has been changed to "transfer" to accommodate any future trade, whether gift or exchange for services.

You are right, transfer sounds better than gift or donation. Gifts ask for return gifts and donations are for charity purposes.

TRANSFER I guess is most appropriate word. It keeps and respect the privacy of sending money.

Respect is more important than privacy. We give donation to a helpless person. I think here we are not helpless.
