Should we add Topic Tags OR Related Topics?

Something I would love to see on ForumCoin are Topic Tags. A topic can be tagged (e.g. python, MyLot etc.) which is great for SEO and great when you are browsing a forum (finding more topics of interest). Related Topics also help in a similar way.

Given the phpBB extension for tags is very outdated, I would suggest:

Thanks for the suggestion Sam, I do like the idea of displaying similar topics and feel it would help members to find topics of interest on the forum.

It would be interesting to hear what other members think of this idea?

I am in favor of tagging a topic. Many sites make it compulsory/optional providing tagging space for their members.

My guess is it would just dredge up old topics that haven't been seen in years and FC members that are just here for the pennies would have a field day. It's simple enough (and adequate) to subscribe to topics that interest you, or click New Posts to see current activity.

I understand that it could be a concern... Hmm. The problem is that ForumCoin needs to be a good source of information for guests viewing the forum. It's guests who click on advertisements (the current primary way of generating revenue). In order to do that, ForumCoin should make it easy to find the best information on the forum. I think related topics, a best answer feature and a sort by reputation option could be a good part of that.

Well I am in for related topics. However, best answer feature might bring some sort of unwanted competition here, or may be it could be tried for some very selective posts.

Topic tags would also be a good idea. However, some rule like minimum two or three tags should be there, and some keywords excluded from tags, though that would need some programming.

This is a feature that will be part of the site when we move to 3.2. It does have the ability to only show related topics that are within a certain period of time so we can prevent old topic being brought up from 2 years ago.

It's definitely a good idea, most websites I have been on makes use of tags and it makes navigation very easy. So, it's a welcoming idea.
