What's the Difference between an Article & a Discussion?

Postby friendociate » 24 Nov 2018, 02:20

I don't mean 'how many more points can you get for one rather than the other'; I mean, 'Why?' Other than 'the number of points you promise us,' why write an article rather than a discussion? (Readers can "comment" on either one, no?)

Maybe ForumCoin is aiming to be something other than 'a platform for online forums'--something like 'a library of e-currency literature,' maybe ("to become a new world currency" is kind of an 'indefinite' objective - I'm not clear on what- or how that means what-/how it means (nor the who, when, where or why :wtf: ))

The New World Currency concept is that we can buy and sell goods and services to each other using ForumCoin

That's the what; ONE of the qualities I'm looking for, but I'm probably more-interested in the 'how' and 'why.'

Thanks for your question friendociate. From our Articles guidelines:

  1. Each article submitted must contain at least five paragraphs and preferably at least 500 words
  2. Your article should include detailed and helpful information. Your article should include a "takeaway" that the reader can use to change behaviour and improve

Article topics we welcome:
Technology
Making Money Online
Business
Personal Finance
Self Improvement

All of the above are not requirements for forum topics and posts, where shorter posts are welcome. Hence, the extra ForumCoin for articles is to reward members for more detailed contributions that are helpful to our community. Does that answer your questions?

Hi Fergal,
Would you or the moderator approve short story, or an article on Database System, or a Software Scripting language?
Or a Movie Review?

I think the underlying idea might have been to have a niche area within forumcoin, with the potential to generate more revenues.

There is a big difference between writing an article from that of a writing a discussion as far as ForumCoin is concerned.

Article has a form, a requirement to meet. In short, there is a standard on how many paragraphs should there be, on how many words to contain therein, and it should have a subject or a theme to be focused on.

While a discussion, it is a free form. It may a brief reaction to a topic or simply a sentence or two idea reflection or merely a phrase.

I guess I wanna know if people respond differently to articles than they do to discussions ... like an article is more like 'a finished, fully-researched masterpiece (on which the writer is "the authority," and the comments are just "kudos & criticisms from the readers"),' while a discussion is more like 'a topic brought-up to hear the knowledge & opinions of the readers (and the writer's not so-much "an authority" as "just someone else who's curious about the topic").'

Well summarized indeed Nakitakona.
@friendociate indeed Articles are like a topic of a Thesis or a draft writeup, whereas discussions are free form things.

@friendociate, in general; discussions tend to be more free-flowing, articles more rigid in their subject matter.

If "an article on Database System, or a Software Scripting language" meets our guidelines we would be happy to accept them. Movie reviews would not meet our article guidelines and do not belong in that section.

No our articles section is for factual based content, however, you would be welcome to post a short story in General Chat - Off Topic section.

I don't respond any differently to an article than I do to any of the other discussion threads. I try to make my comments helpful. That's what this site is about. And about socializing and having fun.
