I wish the Sharing-Code wasn't so Spammy

Postby friendociate » 01 Nov 2018, 19:49

You know, when you click the button to share (on Google or LinkedIn or maybe some of the others), and the text that shows up on your profile page there is 'FORUMCOIN - CHATTING FOR FORUMCOINS -' & THEN it tells the title (and there's usually not even enough room left over to put the whole title in)?

With that title, Facebook would be accusing ME of SPAMMING if I post more than 5-or-so everyday :x Admin should change that sharing-text.

Thanks for your feedback and suggestion friendociate. When you share a topic from ForumCoin the content on the shared message includes the topic title from ForumCoin. Is that what you are referring to? You can also edit that text to whatever you want it to be and to make it relevant to the site you are sharing on.

You mean I can take out that "ForumCode - View Topic -" and that description that says 'ForumCode is an online community where you can ...'?

How do I do that?

Hello,

In the case of Facebook that you mentioned in your opening post, the sharing link actually doesn't contain anything more than a URL to the topic. Facebook then grabs the page title from the URL and the sites META description themselves (by sending a request to that URL from their servers) and this is then used to create the link you see on Facebook.

As we don't provide these details to Facebook, we can't really control them as the page title and META description is used for a variety of things and search engines. I also very much doubt Facebook would punish you because of these details that they pull from the site themselves. They probably are more likely to have an issue with the volume of links shared or the content on the destination page rather than our current page title or META description.

Now that I think about it, I could just 'click the "X"' and erase that whole little 'description-box'---maybe sharing the title (and a BETTER description) in the text with the URL :ugeek:
