What is your opinion of the quality of the content on this site?

Postby OldGuy » 08 Sep 2018, 04:32

This site has a feature to allow active members to express their opinions of the content from each member. It is known as reputation points on this site, and you can express your opinion by clicking the thumbs up or down hand in the lower right corner of each post.

If you approve of a post, agree with it or feel it provides high quality content you can click on the thumbs up image to express your positive opinion of that post. If you see content that is low quality, feel it does not add value to the topic, violates site TOS or is someway offensive, you can click on the thumbs down image to express your negative opinion of that content.

Most members prefer to ignore low quality content and generally do not click the thumbs down image, but it can happen. Instead, most members simply ignore low quality content. As a result, a low reputation point score says almost the same as a negative point. Both are saying that you need to do better. A negative reputation point just screams it louder.

This should not be new information for anyone who has been active more than a few days.

The startling thing is, most members are not giving out any positive reputation points at all. Does this mean that in the collective opinion of the site members that the content being posted is nearly all bad?

There were a total counted 532 posts added to the site in the last 24 hours. There were a total count of just 5 positive reputation points given out on all that new content. Similar comparisons have been going on for a long time. The reputation point scores are dropping for many members and several individual reputation scores have been in free fall for months.

Does this mean you are not reading content, or does this mean you think everything you read is junk?

If you see good content, let the member know you approve. Click the thumbs up positive reputation point icon. It is a guide that helps each member know how the rest of the community views their content. If you approve, say so. Otherwise, even if you don't click the negative thumbs down icon, it appears you are saying everything you are reading is junk content.

Are you reading posts and using the reputation point system to let others know how you view their content?

Of late, I find the quality of many posts had gone down drastically and it appears that either Fergal or his 2nd in Commnad on the site, do not appear to check the quality of posts. To illustrate, as an example, just visit the replies received for my question "shagoon.com". Just see for yourself how every one is repeating the same reply one after the other. Likewise, there are posts with poor English along with grammatical mistakes.

That is right. I always feel so insecure when I don't get thumbs up after posting several times. So I go back and start improving my posts so that they can meet the quality and also be helpful to the people who read it.

Yes, I use the reputation point system to let others know how I view their content, which is always positive (useful). If I find the content to be otherwise, I leave it alone. As mentioned, this action speaks for itself too. Bear in mind too that a thumbs up doesn't necessarily mean the content was read and understood. It could mean that it was given by friends because it's what friends do. For me, if I like it I let you know.

Here at FC giving a reputations point does not increase one's earnings. And that could be one reason why it is not made much use of
