Is There Any Limit For 'Rating' Here?

Postby A K Rao » 01 Aug 2018, 17:02

I have joined this site five days back, this is my sixth day!

During this stay I have learnt many things by exploring the site, reading about the site and by taking the help of other members here, who are very helpful and generous!

From the FAQ section I have gathered that we can rate a discussion positively or negatively as per the merit of a discussion or the response.

In last few days i have observed that there are many senior members here who readily help the newbies and they are posting a detailed and informative responses, which I genuinely like!

Most of the times I feel like giving them a thumbs up/positive rating for the content and the presentation, but then I kept quite so far as I had a confusion in my mind if there is any limit of rating here.

Can I rate a member positive for his several posts if the posts are genuinely good?

How many ratings I can do per day?

It will be a great help to me if some one can throw light on this subject ! Thanks! :?

I don't think there is a limit for the ratings but I am not sure, my advice is for you to check the FAQ but honestly I do not recall seing information about it. Maybe an Admin can help you with that. Me for instance I only rate posts that I really like I don't rate stuff just for rating.

I don't think there is a limit, but I would still reserve the ratings for posts that are informative and follow the topic of conversation. I would definitely seek the advice of the admins before to find out if there is a proper way for you to rate posts. I wouldn't recommend rating everything you see as that may be considered spam. I am glad to hear that you are liking the community and that members have been helping you out here. This is why I like it here so much.

The reputation point system is merely an indicator of how you view posts you read. It is not an accurate gauge of quality. There is no advance in membership authority and no financial reward involved. In general, your collection of reputation points merely tells you how the rest of the community views your content.

Divide you total number of reputation points by your total number of posts and read the results as a percentage. The overall average for all active members on the site is just under 10%. Based on site averages, you should be getting at least one positive reputation point for every ten posts. If your personal percentage falls below that, it is more like the rest of the community telling you that you need to do better. A negative reputation point screams it.

There is no indication that you are limited in how often you tell someone you like their content, and no one is gaining anything by cheating. If you like what you read, say so.

Most members do not give out negative reputation points, but it can happen. Negative reputation points can cause hard feelings between members. If you see something offensive, it would be better to use the little explanation point in the triangle to report the post to the administration and express the reason for your report. If they find it deserves a negative reputation point, it would be more meaningful if it comes from them, not another member.

You mean there won't be any increment in the ForumCoins if we get a positive rating?

If you take a look at the FAQ pages, there is a section that explains how you are compensated in ForumCoins. There is some difference in responding to content in different categories, and there is a significant difference if you submit articles. The compensation scale is reduced for posts above the site recommended 10 posts per day, but there is no penalty or violation of any rule to post as much as you want. You just don't get as much per post for all over 10 in a single 24 hour period.

There is nothing mentioned about reputation points relating to the compensation, at least as it is now.

There have been past discussions posted by various administrators speaking of some future plans to use the reputation points in a formula to increase payments for those with a higher percentage of reputation points, but that has only been comments about future plans. No such formula exists for now.

The reputation points has no current affect on your compensation. The only current value is a guide to tell you what the rest of the community thinks of your content. Nothing more.

Quite frankly, I'm happy with the way reputation points are being used. I think if you try to link or associate them with some form of compensation people might start trying to game the system. Pals start patting (or padding) each other's backs. That type of thing.

I view the Reputation Point as a Like button. Nothing more. Just my way of acknowledging that the member said something I liked or agreed with. Technically, me giving another person a Rep Point is almost like me saying "I think you're alright! Cause you agree with me." I'm kind of sort of giving myself a Rep Point ... indirectly.

Dude! You've got me over-thinking this. :D <3

I am getting your point!

In fact I missed out that mutual patting aspect as mentioned by you!

Yes, Whenever there is an incentive there can be misuse or cheating the the system!

Having understood that there is no compensation or incentive to the member receiving a positive rating excerpt for increment in the reputation, I am relieved of a big burden and I can rate some good responses with the positive ratings! Thanks!
