Have You Ever Received A 'Warning'?

Postby A K Rao » 01 Aug 2018, 08:43

While going through Guidelines and FAQ sections I have noted that the members are given an opportunity before Banning them by serving them Warnings and deducting some FCs from their account. the reasons can be many! Have you ever received any Warning so far? If so, how many FCs were deducted as fine?

I've been watching the site activity for quite some time and have viewed many member warnings from the various site administrators in the form of negative reputation points. In most cases, they deduct a single reputation point along with various "canned" statements they repeat. Each of the administrators and moderators have their own wording, but basically ask that you do better, or add content, etc., but they rarely seem to actually say what is "better", unless they also send private pm notes not available for view to anyone other than the recipient.

There have also been many members banned over the life of the site. If there is a direct violation of site rules, the ban is often instant and with no advance warning. With others, there may be one to several single negative deductions as a warning before a member gets banned. They usually deduct 50 reputation points with a ban and in some cases also deduct ForumCoins.

The most common reason I have seen for a negative reputation point is a post that is far too brief, or does not actually add any significant value to the topic. Another common reason for a negative reputation point is a member who inserts a self promoting ad or link in their posts, especially in categories where the heading specifically warns that personal ads are not permitted.

Other problems exist with content from some members, such as significant errors in content that is Not On Topic or contains errors in Spelling, Capitalization, Punctuation, Spacing, Incomplete Sentences, Grammar or Syntax, Sentence Structure and Non English Content. Due to the international nature of the members, the site administrators seem to be fairly lenient with these kinds of errors unless they become too excessive.

All in all, the one area that seems to affect more members than anything else is content that is much too brief. The "better" they all want to see would be to make certain you write content that is long enough to actually write a thoughtful statement that adds value to the topic.

I have never received any warnings from here. The rules of this site are pretty clear and straightforward so I don't understand why people can't or won't follow them. The admin are really lenient with their forum compared to others. However, they still want quality content to help their forum grow and stay alive. I think people who get banned are just looking to make a quick buck and will do whatever they can. I have noticed that they will answer the same thread with the same comment, say inappropriate things, and spam as much as they can. People like this only hurt themselves in the long run.

We often send a PM but not always. We always send a PM if it's a "more unique" rule broken. My PMs usually give specific examples of posts that we'd consider poor quality and an encouragement to share/post about things that you're interested in or knowledgeable about. These PMs are not about spelling or grammar - I've never sent a PM about either - but rather short posts that are not adding to the discussion.

We have a log of moderator PMs too so we know if you have already been sent a PM.

Warnings are very hard to get - a PM reminder (almost) always comes first. Bans are usually reserved for spammers and those cheating the system.

That is a useful and relevant information about the warnings.

One need to be really too bad to do harm to this site to get a ban and before ban warnings are generally sent by PMs.

That is a big relief for the people whose native language is not English to learn that we don't get warnings for spelling and grammatical mistakes. Thanks!

I have not received any warning so far. I am trying to stick to the rules and guidelines of the site and I hope I do not get any warning in future too.
I have got negative reputation twice from admin and I have taken those advice seriously. They were for my own improvement.

I am here from more than 3 years now and I have never received a warning, even though I have already received 3 negative reputation points, but all of them were my fault and they also exist o alert us when something isn't right. I also agree with some comments here are very repetitive and come always from the same members.

I have received on warning here when I was new. My bad because my comment lacks information. But that only happened once.

I have received one warning from a site moderator. So I must watch what I post and to make sure that I make sense when commenting to topics. After that, it served as my motivation to do better.

Hopefully, I would steer clear of warnings here, unless I become a hacker and try to use this site as a launchpad for starting a nuclear war somewhere in the world !!
;) ;) ;)

(Ha ha well my mind always keeps on thinking of new stories !!)

Yes, be careful. You can enjoy the site by following the rules as well, and try to give substantial output in each post.

Not here and I am glad of that, but last week I decided to try a Bitcoin Forum and on my first day I posted an honest thank you to a member that posted an opinion that I really appreciated and a moderator deleted it with nothing but an email saying it was off topic. I have not been back since and have no intention of posting again.
