Quantity Does Not Equal Quality

Postby OldGuy » 10 May 2018, 19:31

ForumCoin has a suggested daily limit of 10 posts. Most members who do not exceed that limit are posting higher quality content and are earning an above average number of reputation points in recognition of their higher quality.

There are a growing number of members who slap in 20, 30 or more posts on a daily basis, but most of that content is lower quality. They are not only NOT earning a comparable volume of reputation points, but when comparing the volume of posts to the earned reputation points, their scores are dropping. Quantity is NOT EQUAL to Quality.

If you are not earning at least one Reputation Point for each 10 Posts, the community is telling you that you are posting low quality content. Slow down and post higher quality content. That daily 10 post limit has good reason. You are much more likely to be posting low quality content when you exceed that suggested limit.

Although your earned Reputation Points do not specifically affect your personal earnings at this time, your personal averages do affect the quality score for the entire site.

Alexa and other site ratings services notice. Although it may not mean a lot to the active members, there are website services that scan and rate every active site on the internet. Search engines and advertisers notice their ratings and make decisions that affect guests and visitors coming to this site and the potential revenue this site can even earn.

Search Engines Notice. If the site is filled with low quality content, search engines place results from this site at the far end of a long list of results. No one is reading your junk and no one is finding useful results that have been posted in the mix.

Higher Paying Advertisers Notice. Fergal has been paying the costs and expenses for this site out of pocket with an astonishing level of generosity. If the quality could warrant it, this site could attract higher paying advertisers that could eventually increase funds available to pay to the contributing members. Any increase in compensation for your future content is not likely unless advertisers find this site attractive enough to post their ads here. The continued volume of low quality content prevents this site from attracting higher paying advertisers and directly affects future earnings for everyone.

Visiting Guests Notice. Visitors come to this site to find information on topics of interest. If they have to wade through volumes of low quality content, they give up and go elsewhere for their information. These visiting guests are the ultimate end user of the data the members provide. If they stop coming everyone loses.

Slow down and think before you post.

Make sure you are adding something of value to the thread with each added post. The length of your post is not necessarily a sign of quality, but you should be adding an intelligent comment that adds a valuable contribution to the thread without repeating previous content. Proper English grammar, spelling, capitalization and punctuation in the correct sentence and paragraph structure all substantially improves the quality of the post. Anything less is low quality that does more harm than good to the site.

Awesome topic, @OldGuy!
All the things you mentioned in this topic are right and all users should think about them... Good posts are essential for Forum Coin...
In my opinion a good post isn't necessarly a very long post. For me, in a good post there's information, debate, opinions, etc.
As a moderator I already sent several Private messages to users that are always doing poor posts or posts that don't contribute for discussion. And some really improved their posts.
However that's difficult see all posts and all users, so every user should think if they really deserve the Forumcoin that they are earning...

Quantity refers to the posts' length while Quality refers to the posts' substance or content. I think a member can contribute a valuable posts if he/she read and understand the whole thread before giving a reply. In short, the value of a posts depends on the passion of the member.

I think Fergal should pin this post to the top of the forum, so everyone can see it, but my guess is even then most would not bother to read it. It amazes me what some people will do for a PENNY.
