Reputation doesn't really do anything other than let others know that your posts are appreciated and helpful. Members can give you reputation points if they like your answer to a comment. Other than making you feel good about yourself when you receive one, the points don't do anything else. Even so they are nice to get.

I didn't learn about the reputation point system until I started getting them from posting on topics and creating interesting topics that would make others want to respond. throughout my time here I have received and given many reputation points :)

Many members ask about "reputation" because there is currently nothing to describe it in the FAQ pages.

I wondered myself what it all could mean, and the general answers from most members still did not satisfy my own curiosity, so I have taken a lot of time to really study what it is and what it reveals.

The reputation system allows the community at large to let you know what they think of your content. If you post some outstanding content that impresses another member, they can give you a positive point. If you post low quality content that distresses another member, they can give you a negative point. If your content is so low quality it distresses one of the site administration, they can give out a minus 50 points at a single swipe and kick you off the site.

You can easily learn what the community thinks of your content by doing a quick calculation. Divide your rep points by your total number of posts to find your "score" (my own term based on my study). The overall average of all active members is around 10.2% by the time you get going. The average for those with 15 to 25 posts is about 1.9% so you are doing just fine for now.)

If you are not reaching at least the community average by the time you have more than 100 posts, you might want to really work on posting higher quality content that contributes valid ideas and opinions to the thread.

In effect, the community is letting you know what they think of your content by giving you rep points. Try your best to always post content that will impress the other community members and you will see it grow.

It is a nice system. No confrontation is needed. If you see your score fall below averages, the rest of the members are telling you to do better.

This is a very nice explanation of the reputation system. It is impressive that you have been able to understand and internalize it to a point that you can actually illustrate using mathematical figures and percentages. The positive reinforcement and helpfulness is greatly appreciated. In fact, every part of the forum I go, I find that you have helped another member with an unclear issue and I get to learn from that myself. I already feel like I've been here for a decade yet I'm just a newbie. :D

It will take some time for me to fully understand it. Maybe I will get as I participate more here. But one thing is very clear that to earn reputation one has to maintain the quality of content. So that keeps a check on you.

Simple. It's like a Like button.
When people like what you post they give you a Thumbs Up. It could be a post thread you started or it could be your comments in a thread. They may Notify you know to let you know they gave you a Rep Point. When they send the message, they may something extra or they may not. They may not notify you but it's OK. You still get the point. The more points you get, the better your reputation. In other words ... the members like you! ;) <3

So Having more reputations do not let you earn any forum coins. I had an impression that other than a feel good factor, it would also help you to earn some forum coins. But the feel good factor is also enough to keep you on your toes to be more active and post quality contents

More reputation points don't let you earn coin but it has a great impact as a member and on the whole community. It bosts your confidence as a contributor. You help the site keeps healthy and increase the search engine's rankings up.
